The part-time Catering Barback position at the Iowa Events Center is a vital role within the OVG hospitality team. This role involves preparing and setting up bars for catered events in accordance with the Banquet Event Order (BEO), ensuring timely transitions and seamless bar operations throughout events. The Catering Barback is responsible for the meticulous handling, storage, and inventory management of bar supplies. This position demands a detail-oriented and proactive individual who can maintain a clean, organized, and safe bar environment while supporting bartenders and other staff members effectively.

This role is also tip eligible and offers an hourly wage of $17.00, along with part-time benefits such as a 401(k) savings plan and matching contributions, emphasizing OVG's commitment to employee well-being and financial growth. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Six months experience in barback or similar role preferred
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as events require
  • Ability to stand and move for extended periods
  • Must be able to lift and carry heavy items such as kegs and beverage containers
  • Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully
  • Must comply with safety guidelines and report hazards
  • Must be able to follow instructions and work independently or in a team

Job Qualifications

  • Six months experience bar-backing or in a similar position preferred
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Detail-oriented and able to multi-task and prioritize effectively
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work a flexible, event-based schedule including nights and weekends

Job Duties

  • Have bars moved and set up according to the Banquet Event Order on time for catered events
  • Transition bar setup to alternate locations during events as required
  • Accountable for all received inventory and storage while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized bar area
  • Report unsafe working conditions and injuries immediately to manager on duty
  • Transport all required beverages including beer, wine, liquor, garnishes, ice, and mixers to bars
  • Prep, stock, and re-stock assigned bars including changing out kegs
  • Complete accurate transfer paperwork with bartender on every stock replenishment
  • Clean, sanitize, and organize workspaces and dispose of garbage
  • Communicate respectfully with guests, co-workers, and manager on duty
  • Monitor guest activity to enforce company policy against outside beverages
  • Learn beverage products during available training
  • Assist bartenders in serving beverages when required, checking IDs in compliance with laws
  • Serve alcoholic beverages responsibly and manage guest service as directed by manager
