The role of Banquet Captain at the Palm Beach County Convention Center is a part-time position that offers an hourly wage ranging from $22.00 to $25.00. Reporting under the Catering Supervisor, the Banquet Captain plays a crucial leadership role in ensuring the seamless execution of banquet functions. The core responsibility involves overseeing banquet service operations, coordinating event logistics, and directing serving staff to provide exemplary customer service in line with client expectations. This position demands excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks under the pressure of high-volume event environments. Responsibilities include reviewing Banquet Event Orders (BEOs) to confirm all event details, conducting pre-banquet staff meetings to assign duties and review standards, and maintaining clear communication with supervisors and managers to anticipate and address operational needs.
The Banquet Captain manages inventory requisitions, verifies room setups, coordinates food delivery timing with the kitchen staff, and ensures proper handling and storage of all banquet equipment. Monitoring service quality during events, managing potential client issues, and mentoring banquet staff to uphold service standards and safety protocols are also key parts of the role. Job Requirements
- Ability to work weekdays and weekends with flexible shifts
- Minimum two years of experience in catering or restaurant services
- High school diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent experience
- Must obtain and maintain required certifications including Food Handlers Card and Alcohol Awareness
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage high-pressure event situations
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or G.E.D. or related food service job experience
- Minimum 2 years experience in high-volume catering or restaurant environment
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented, event-driven environment
- Excellent communication skills with employees, management, and guests
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations
- Must acquire and maintain Food Handlers Card and Alcohol Awareness Certification
- Availability to work weekdays, weekends, and varied shifts on an on-call/event basis
Job Duties
- Review banquet event orders to ensure all details are met
- Conduct pre-banquet meetings with staff to ensure standards are met and assign stations
- Communicate with supervisors and managers to confirm event plans
- Ensure timely implementation of changes and instructions
- Manage inventory requisitions and ensure availability of necessary banquet items
- Check room setup and coordinate with chefs on food timing and quantities
- Conduct random audits to evaluate food and service quality
- Handle client complaints promptly and work with event planning team
- Train and mentor banquet servers and event staff
- Ensure adherence to safety, health, and sanitation guidelines during events
