The Banquet Captain position at the Greenville SC Convention Center is a part-time role that offers an hourly wage ranging from $16.00 to $17.00 and includes benefits such as a 401(k) Savings Plan with matching contributions. This role is integral to the seamless execution of banquet functions, ensuring guest satisfaction and smooth event operations. The Banquet Captain will coordinate and oversee banquet functions by reviewing assigned staff duties and event menus, conducting pre-event meetings, and ensuring adherence to appearance and hygiene standards. This role requires close collaboration with the Executive Chef, Kitchen Manager, and event coordinators to confirm all event details, including food preparation, service timing, and setup arrangements, are accurately met. The Banquet Captain is also tasked with managing inventory requisitions for necessary items like china, glassware, silverware, linens, and props, ensuring all equipment is handled properly before, during, and after events.
Additional responsibilities include conducting random audits during events to maintain high food quality and service standards, ensuring food is served at the correct temperature, and optimizing upsell opportunities to enhance the guest experience. This role demands a thorough review of the banquet schedule to accommodate changes and special events, while consistently incorporating safe work practices and demonstrating reliability through regular attendance. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Three to six months of related experience and/or training or equivalent education and experience
- Previous experience in high-volume banquet service environment preferred
- Must meet state age requirements for handling alcoholic beverages
- Must be available to work flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and/or holidays

Job Duties
- Reviews assigned banquet staff functions and banquet menus prior to the scheduled event
- Conducts pre-banquet meetings with staff to ensure appearance and hygiene standards are met, assign stations and partners, and review banquet event orders
- Communicates with the Executive Chef, Kitchen Manager, or event coordinator to ensure all event details have been planned for and met
- Ensures that changes and further instructions are made in a timely manner
- Ensures appropriate quantities of china, glassware, silverware, linens, and other items are available for upcoming events and secures requisitions for those not in inventory
- Checks room setup prior to the event and meets with Executive Chef to confirm food quantities and timing
- Ensures proper handling and storage of all equipment after use
- Conducts random audits during functions to evaluate food and service
- Ensures food is served at appropriate temperature, placed properly, sufficient in quantity, and achieves upsell opportunities
- Regularly reviews banquet schedules for changes and special events
- Incorporates safe work practices in job performance
- Maintains regular and reliable attendance
- Performs other duties as required
