The Terminal Operator role at Amrize's Memphis Terminal in Tennessee is an integral position within the company’s daily operations. This is a hands-on role focused on the operation of terminal equipment and managing routine terminal functions as directed by terminal management. The Terminal Operator ensures the smooth and safe handling of construction materials, specifically cement products, by overseeing processes such as unloading barges and railcars, transferring products into storage silos, and loading bulk unit trucks accurately according to customer specifications and legal weight requirements. Customer service is a critical aspect of this role, ensuring that activities related to product handling, customer engagement, and truck dispatch are conducted efficiently and with high quality.

In addition to operational duties, the Terminal Operator is responsible for maintaining terminal buildings and equipment in excellent condition and complying with all internal control procedures and safety policies. This role requires vigilance to detect and prevent fraud and misuse of company resources, ensuring compliance with established standards and governmental regulations. Terminal Operators are expected to demonstrate mechanical aptitude and the ability to troubleshoot equipment failures, operate various unloading and loading machinery including vibrators, compressors, front-end loaders, blowers, pumps, vacuum systems, and hoisting equipment. The position requires adherence to health, safety, and environmental policies, promoting a culture of safety in all work activities.

The ideal candidate will possess a high school diploma or equivalent, with 1-3 years of relevant experience and basic computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft programs and SAP. Candidates should also have a high mechanical aptitude, the ability to work in physically demanding environments, including heights and confined spaces, and a positive attitude when interacting with coworkers, customers, and the public. Knowledge of cement and the construction industry is a valuable asset.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1-3 years of relevant work experience
  • basic knowledge of computers, Microsoft programs, and SAP

  • knowledge of office equipment
  • willingness to adhere to safety protocols and use of Personal Protection Equipment including respirators
  • clean-shaven where respirator seals meet the face

  • knowledge of cement and construction industry is preferred

Job Duties

  • Operate terminal equipment and perform daily terminal functions as directed by management
  • provide final quality control checks of products
  • expedite truck handling and provide excellent customer service
  • maintain terminal buildings and equipment in good condition
  • handle receiving and shipping of products efficiently
  • enforce internal controls to prevent fraud and protect company resources
  • ensure compliance with operational procedures and legal regulations
  • unload barges and railcars, transfer products to silos, sample and test received and shipped products
  • correctly load bulk unit trucks with legal weights and proper products
  • safely operate unloading equipment such as vibrators, compressors, loaders, blowers, pumps, and hoisting equipment
  • process Bills of Lading
  • troubleshoot terminal equipment failures
  • follow all terminal management instructions and ensure safety and environmental policies are adhered to
