Job Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED
  • Must be able to successfully pass Benihana chef training program
  • Previous experience as chef or cook highly desirable
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform manual tasks
  • Must comply with food safety and hygiene standards
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays

Job Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a chef or cook highly desirable
  • Knowledge of kitchen operations and food safety standards
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment
  • Proficiency in cooking a variety of meats, seafood, and vegetables

Job Duties

  • Greet and welcome guests within 15 minutes of their teppan order
  • Perform a cooking show for assigned tables ensuring interaction with guests is appropriate and courteous
  • Provide guests with information about Benihana foods during cooking or upon inquiry
  • Respond promptly and courteously to guest requests
  • Ask guests for cooking preferences as applicable and follow guest instructions
  • Prepare a variety of meats, seafood, poultry, vegetables, and other food items for cooking using kitchen equipment
  • Perform shift opening and closing duties such as cleaning refrigeration units, gaskets, chef carts, and floors
  • Maintain kitchen, teppan cooking areas, kitchen equipment and ensure food storage areas are clean, sanitary and organized
  • Report any kitchen equipment or maintenance issues to the chief chef or manager on duty
  • Comply with Company standards on food portioning, cooking methods, quality standards, recipes, service cycle, policies and procedures
  • Prepare foods in accordance with the Company’s portion standards and recipe specifications
  • Adhere to Company guidelines on proper food presentation and garnishes
  • Handle, store, label and rotate foods properly in accordance with health safety and local laws
  • Use knives and kitchen tools to portion, cut, slice, and prepare foods
  • Adhere to Company guidelines on alcoholic beverage service
  • Maintain a clean and neat appearance and use a courteous manner with all guests
  • Notify manager on duty immediately when guests are not satisfied or if an accident occurs
  • Participate in ensuring guest special occasion celebrations are memorable
  • May be asked to photograph and/or be photographed with guests upon request
  • Perform other duties as assigned by a supervisor
