Job Description
The National Multiple Sclerosis Society is a renowned nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals affected by multiple sclerosis (MS) through scientific research, advocacy, education, and support services. Established with the mission to mobilize people and resources, the Society funds cutting-edge research aimed at finding a cure for MS and works tirelessly to confront the challenges faced by those living with the disease. The Society collaborates with MS organizations worldwide, providing a robust network of support and shared resources that help move the lives of people with MS and their families forward. Through an active partnership with volunteers, the Society enhances its outreach and impact. Staff members play a crucial role by engaging these volunteers effectively via timely communication, meaningful involvement opportunities, and continuous feedback for mutual growth and learning.
This job opportunity is for a Temporary, Full-time position expected to work between 30 and 40 hours per week. The role offers competitive compensation with an estimated hourly wage of $30 to $33, depending on geographic location and career experience. In addition to competitive pay, temporary employees working 30 or more hours weekly are eligible for valuable benefits including medical, flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts, and commuter benefits, alongside leave allowances such as Spring Health, sick time, bereavement, and jury duty leave. The role is a market-based position focused on supporting the National MS Society's West Region, particularly the Northern California Chapter, with a preference for applicants located in or near the San Francisco/Bay Area, California. The position requires regular in-person attendance at meetings, events, and volunteer interactions, supplemented by remote work from a home office or Society workspace, with travel accounting for up to 50% of the work time.
The primary responsibility of the Temporary Coordinator is to support the planning, execution, and evaluation of fundraising events that are vital to driving donor engagement and revenue generation. This multifaceted role includes collaborating with internal teams and volunteers to ensure seamless logistics, engaging participant experiences, and fostering strong community connections. The coordinator is integral in driving the organization's mission forward through successful events by supplying detailed communication, organizational skills, and donor stewardship. Core duties include event planning support, onsite event staffing, volunteer and vendor coordination, inventory tracking, and cross-functional collaboration with regional teams. This position allows for a hands-on role in managing the intricacies of events, providing critical support to ensure every aspect operates smoothly and aligns with the Society's goals and standard operating procedures. The role is ideal for someone with excellent organizational and communication skills, a detail-oriented approach, and a proactive team spirit, especially with a background or interest in fundraising or nonprofit settings. This challenging and rewarding position offers an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a cause that touches countless lives, making a tangible difference in the fight against MS.
