Job Description
Spokane Valley is a vibrant city incorporated in 2003, located on the eastern border of Washington State, in the heart of the Inland Northwest. With a population exceeding 110,000, the city is known for its quality neighborhoods, excellent schools, and thriving business and retail centers. The community boasts friendly residents, natural beauty, and pleasant weather, making it a sought-after destination for both residents and visitors. Spokane Valley operates as a high-performing organization, emphasizing best practices, loyalty, accountability, professionalism, and exceptional customer service. The city values a team-oriented and collaborative work environment that fosters intellectual stimulation, respect, and rewards.
The position available is for part-time Event Support at CenterPlace, a 54,000 square foot regional event facility within Spokane Valley. CenterPlace is highly versatile, offering a variety of meeting and conference spaces suitable for regional conferences, meetings, banquets, weddings, fundraisers, performances, senior activities, and more. The facility is equipped with advanced audiovisual technology, diverse layouts, and outdoor event areas to accommodate a wide range of event types and sizes. This role focuses on providing outstanding customer service and supporting events from set-up to tear-down, ensuring all logistical and technical needs are met efficiently.
This part-time role is flexible, with shifts available during days, nights, and weekends to accommodate varying candidate availability. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, customer-service oriented, and prepared to work collaboratively. Duties include assisting event groups during functions, handling equipment setup such as tables, chairs, linens, dishes, and AV gear, and maintaining a professional and calm demeanor even under pressure. Safety is a priority, with responsibilities to prevent accidents and properly document any incidents that occur.
Event Support staff must be proficient with computers, able to follow detailed instructions, communicate professionally, and demonstrate leadership and patience during stressful situations. The role demands physical stamina, including the ability to lift between 20 and 50 pounds. While prior hospitality or banquet experience is advantageous, it is not mandatory. The city prefers candidates with a high school diploma or GED and values a proactive attitude willing to contribute extra effort to ensure successful event execution. Candidates must hold or be able to obtain a valid State driver’s license and successfully pass a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
Compensation for this position is $17.13 per hour, with work hours ranging from 10 to 30 hours weekly based on event bookings. Please note this is a part-time position that does not include City-sponsored benefits. This opportunity is ideal for individuals seeking a dynamic and rewarding role within a collaborative and customer-focused municipal organization.
