The Temporary Barista positions are part of the University of Notre Dame's Operations, Events, and Safety (UOES) division, which encompasses event management, hospitality, and customer service functions designed to support various university activities including student life, academic pursuits, research, athletics, alumni relations, and campus celebrations. These roles are situated within the Hospitality department at two vibrant campus cafes: Cafe J and Ivan's Cafe. Cafe J, located at the heart of campus, serves as a lively gathering spot where football fans, students, faculty, staff, and visitors unite over freshly brewed coffee and quality food in a fast-paced atmosphere. Ivan's Cafe, nestled inside the Raclin Murphy Museum of Art, provides an upscale cafe experience characterized by its refined ambiance and exceptional service.

As a Temporary Barista, you will play a crucial role in delivering excellent guest service by preparing and serving high-quality coffee and tea beverages, adhering strictly to brand standards. This is a guest-facing role that demands efficiency, accuracy, and a positive attitude while maintaining a clean and organized work environment. Responsibilities include greeting guests warmly and anticipating their needs, processing transactions following proper accounting procedures, stocking and replenishing supplies, and supporting team members to ensure smooth daily operations. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in a customer service or food service role preferred
  • Ability to handle cash transactions accurately
  • Availability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays
  • Ability to stand and perform physical activities for long periods
  • Effective communication skills
  • Commitment to adhering to food safety and hygiene standards

Job Qualifications

  • Capable of managing time effectively with minimal supervision
  • Positive and respectful attitude
  • Excellent communication and listening skills
  • Ability to maintain a standing position for extended periods of time up to 6 hours at a time

Job Duties

  • Greet and anticipate the needs of guests, providing excellent service
  • Prepare and serve coffee, tea, and other beverages according to brand standards
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitized work area, including dining and prep spaces
  • Stock and replenish supplies in service and prep areas
  • Process guest checks, handle payments, and follow accounting procedures
  • Assist with cleaning, table arrangement, and trash removal
  • Perform side work and support coworkers to ensure a seamless operation
