Job Description

The University of Oklahoma Norman Campus is a well-established public research university known for fostering academic excellence, innovation, and community engagement. It provides a diverse and inclusive environment where students, staff, and faculty collaborate to drive advancements in education and research. The institution emphasizes a culture of respect, creativity, and inclusivity, offering opportunities for growth and fulfillment within its vibrant community. As part of its commitment to serving and supporting its campus community, the university maintains a dedicated food services department that plays an essential role in enhancing the campus experience by providing nutritious and appealing meals to students, faculty, and visitors.

The role being offered is an entry-level Food Service Assistant position that operates under direct supervision to assist in the routine preparation and serving of food. This position is integral to the daily operations of the campus dining services, ensuring that food is prepared safely and served courteously with appropriate portion control. The Food Service Assistant will utilize various kitchen appliances and equipment, including ovens, slicers, mixers, and industrial dish machines, while adhering to safety and sanitation standards. The position demands a cooperative spirit as well, supporting other food service staff and assisting in special events such as luncheons, dinners, and catering requests. Employees will also be responsible for cleaning and sanitizing kitchen tools and work areas to maintain the highest health standards.

This full-time role primarily supports the food service operations within the University of Oklahoma Norman Campus, making it an excellent opportunity for individuals who enjoy working in food preparation and enjoy serving others in a community-oriented setting. The position requires the ability to work physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy items and standing for extended periods. It is an excellent match for candidates with a high school diploma or GED, basic English communication skills, and good customer service abilities. While a valid driver's license is preferred, it is not a strict requirement.

As an employee, you will be part of a team that values diversity, equitable employment practices, and continuous personal and professional development. The University of Oklahoma is an equal opportunity employer committed to providing accommodations and supporting its employees' well-being. Experience in food services is beneficial but not mandatory, making this a welcoming role for those seeking to start or develop a career in food service within an esteemed academic institution. Hiring is contingent upon a background check, and selected candidates must comply with the university's tuberculosis testing policy to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all campus members.
