BAE Systems Space & Mission Systems is the U.S. subsidiary of BAE Systems plc, a global leader in defense, aerospace, and security. The company is committed to delivering advanced products and services across air, land, and naval forces, alongside cutting-edge electronics, security solutions, information technology, and customer support services. Headquartered in Boulder, Colorado, Space & Mission Systems specializes in national defense and civil space applications, developing innovative spacecraft, mission payloads, optical systems, and more. Their mission-driven culture fosters ingenuity and passion, allowing employees to impact national security and global safety significantly.
BAE Systems Space & Mission Systems is currently seeking a skilled Aerospace Painter - Technician III to join their Operations Strategic Capabilities Unit. This mid-career role focuses on advanced surface preparation, masking, coating application, and finishing operations on aerospace hardware. The technician is expected to work with minimal supervision, interpret complex drawings independently, support process improvements, and contribute to efficient, high-quality production. The unit plays a vital role in enabling seamless business and program execution by leveraging strategic capital investments, streamlined industrial operations, and state-of-the-art manufacturing and test capabilities.
The Aerospace Painter - Technician III performs critical tasks including surface preparation, paint mixing, coating application using primers, topcoats, and specialty aerospace coatings, and operating paint booths and curing ovens. The role demands strict adherence to safety and compliance guidelines while handling hazardous materials such as chemicals, solvents, acids, and bases. Effective documentation, such as maintaining production records and process logs, is required to ensure quality and process accountability. The technician also supports continuous improvement initiatives that enhance workflow efficiency and reduce defects in paint operations.
Collaboration is a key element of this role, with expectations to work alongside engineers, technicians, leads, and other manufacturing teams across departments, including printed circuit operations and metal finish labs. The position requires a strong commitment to safety, environmental standards, and maintaining clean, organized work areas. Employees must be capable of working on-site five days a week, with possible travel between company campuses.
Educationally, the position requires a high school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of two years of related experience in aerospace painting or industrial coatings. Higher degrees can substitute for experience, and candidates must demonstrate proficiency in surface preparation, masking, spray application, curing processes, reading engineering drawings, and safe chemical handling. Basic computer skills for record-keeping and compliance are also necessary.
The salary range for this full-time position is $57,319 to $91,710, based on market standards, experience, skills, and business needs. BAE Systems offers a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) savings plan, disability coverage, life and accident insurance, paid time off, and employee recognition programs. Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Interim Secret clearance to qualify for employment.
Joining BAE Systems means being part of a dynamic environment that pushes technological boundaries and contributes to national and global security. This aerospace painter role offers the opportunity to grow professionally while making a meaningful impact through specialized technical expertise and collaboration in a leading aerospace company.
