Job Description

Tractor Supply Company is a leading retailer specializing in farm and ranch products, pet supplies, hardware, and outdoor living merchandise. With a deep commitment to serving rural communities, Tractor Supply aims to improve the lives of its customers by providing a wide selection of quality products alongside Legendary Customer Service. With thousands of stores across the United States, the company has grown to become a trusted source for individuals who live the life out here—whether they are farmers, ranchers, pet owners, or outdoor enthusiasts. The company culture focuses on teamwork, dedication, and a passion for making a difference every day. At Tractor Supply and its brand Petsense, the team members are considered the heart of the company's success, driving everything the company does through their hard work and commitment.

The Team Member role at Tractor Supply is an essential customer-facing position designed to deliver an exceptional shopping experience for every customer. This position requires a flexible, adaptable, and service-oriented individual who thrives in a fast-paced retail environment. The primary focus of the Team Member is to uphold the company’s promise of Legendary Customer Service by following the GURA model: Greet the customer, Uncover their needs and wants, Recommend product solutions, and Ask to add value while showing appreciation. Team Members participate actively in selling initiatives and are involved in various store functions such as cash handling, merchandise recovery, inventory processes, assembling merchandise, janitorial duties, price adjustments, safety protocols, and equipment operation.

Working as a Team Member involves significant interaction with customers and fellow team members to ensure that each visitor enjoys a legendary shopping experience that sets Tractor Supply apart from the competition. Candidates in this role will engage in activities such as operating cash registers, participating in merchandising and freight processes, assisting customers with loading their purchases, caring for store poultry, and maintaining a safe retail environment. The store itself offers a working environment that is generally indoors with moderate noise levels and suitable lighting and temperature. Work shifts typically range from 4 to 8 hours or more, including evenings, weekends, and overtime as business needs dictate. Tractor Supply is dedicated to providing comprehensive safety training to promote a secure and productive atmosphere for both employees and customers.

Physically, the Team Member role requires the ability to manage various merchandise handling tasks such as moving products up to 50 pounds, operating equipment like forklifts or pallet jacks (for those over 18), and frequently standing, bending, climbing ladders, and moving around the store throughout the shift. The role also demands effective communication skills, basic computer proficiency, and the capacity to complete all necessary documentation accurately. Special certifications, such as propane dispensing, may be part of the training requirements for eligible candidates.

Tractor Supply values candidates who bring knowledge or a background in farming, ranching, pet care, equine care, or welding, although no prior experience is strictly required. A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred; however, essential skills in reading, writing, counting, and problem-solving are mandatory to succeed in this role.

In return, Tractor Supply offers competitive wages along with a comprehensive benefits package for both full-time and eligible part-time employees. Benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance, company-paid life and disability insurance, paid parental leave, tuition reimbursement, and family planning resources such as adoption and surrogacy assistance. Part-time employees become eligible for benefits after meeting certain hour requirements during an initial lookback period. This commitment to employee well-being and growth reflects Tractor Supply’s belief in supporting its team members not just at work but in their overall life journey.
