Job Description
Whole Foods Market is a leading natural and organic foods supermarket committed to nurturing people and the planet. Founded with a mission that goes beyond just selling groceries, the company actively works to improve the way people eat by providing access to fresh and healthy food, supporting educational initiatives such as school gardens, funding community grants, and alleviating poverty globally. Recognized as a world-changer in the grocery industry, Whole Foods Market strives to set standards of excellence in the retail sector. The company provides meaningful employment opportunities that foster personal growth and community impact.
This specific opportunity is for a position in the Produce Department as a team member responsible for the processing (preparation) and merchandising of fruits and vegetables. The role plays a crucial part in maintaining quality and freshness, ensuring compliance with safety and sanitation standards, and delivering exceptional customer service. Compensation for this role ranges from $22.00 to $29.73 per hour, depending on experience, with eligibility for Whole Benefits, a comprehensive benefits program that includes paid time off, health and wellness programs, store discounts, and various other perks.
As a Produce team member, you will perform a variety of functions such as cutting and preparing produce following strict safety and sanitation rules, maintaining product quality according to Whole Foods Market guidelines, running sampling programs, keeping the department clean, and ensuring accurate pricing and signage. You will also be responsible for supporting sales through proper product preparation, storage, rotation, stocking, and merchandising. Your interactions with customers, vendors, and team members need to be courteous, friendly, and efficient at all times, helping to foster a positive company image.
This role requires a commitment to Whole Foods Market’s core values and goals, supporting regional, national, and store initiatives, and adhering to all applicable health and safety regulations including food safety and compliance duties within the department. Strong communication skills, a passion for natural foods, the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, and a team-oriented mindset are essential qualities for success in this position. While no prior retail experience is required, the ability to learn quickly and work efficiently is important.
Physical demands for this role include lifting up to 50 pounds, standing or walking for 6-8 hours during an 8-hour shift, and performing motions such as bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching. The work environment includes exposure to FDA-approved cleaning chemicals, temperature variations from freezing to warm ambient conditions, and the use of various tools and equipment like knives, box cutters, and electric pallet jacks. The position may also require working flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Whole Foods Market promotes equal employment opportunities and supports diversity and inclusion in its workforce. The company hires and promotes individuals based on qualifications and business needs, ensuring a supportive and fair work environment for all team members. By joining Whole Foods Market as a Produce team member, you will not only gain valuable work experience but also contribute to a larger mission focused on sustainability, health, and community well-being.
