Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required
- Five or more years of relevant experience in import/export trade consulting or equivalent roles required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required
- Experience utilizing RIA, BNA, Lexis Nexis required
- Strong verbal and written communication skills required
- Excellent analytical and tax research skills required
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail required
- Ability to multitask and work independently or within teams required
- Experience managing tax professionals and delegating work required
- Ability to build strong client relationships required
- Basic understanding of taxation and legal issues required
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- Five or more years of experience in import/export trade consulting or related roles such as customs attorney, customs broker, industry trade specialist, US Customs auditor, or import specialist
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Experience with RIA, BNA, Lexis Nexis
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong analytical skills and legal and tax research skills
- Solid organizational skills with ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to multitask and work independently or within a group
- Experience in managing teams and delegating assignments
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with client personnel
- Basic understanding of taxation and legal issues related to customs and international trade
Job Duties
- Assist clients and BDO client service teams in developing ideas, structures and transactions focusing on customs and international trade matters to optimize tax positions
- Research, write and review international trade advice related to Harmonized Tariff Schedule, customs federal regulations, NAFTA, entry processes, and customs valuation
- Research U.S. and international import and export trade matters
- Identify need for internal and external expert resources to introduce opportunities for tax savings
- Develop and maintain workplans for tax consulting projects
- Assist with implementation of Firm tax strategies
- Formulate and deliver trade savings opportunities
- Collaborate with other Firm specialists and client service teams on client and proposal work
- Organize and conduct internal CPE training sessions in the area of specialization
- Establish relationships with BDO customs experts internationally
- Identify opportunities and assist in drafting tax alerts on international customs and global trade tax matters
- Manage client expectations
- Supervise day-to-day workload of Customs and International Trade Associates, Senior Associates, and Interns
- Deliver periodic performance feedback and complete performance evaluations for Associates and Interns
- Mentor Associates and Interns as appropriate
