Job Requirements

  • Verification from system that applicant will be employed to teach specific talented area
  • verification of a minimum of one year of working with students in the specific arts area at the specific level
  • Master's degree in Music, Art, or Theatre earned at a regionally accredited college or university or verification of substantial artistic or creative accomplishment over an extended period of time
  • state certification or ancillary certificate as required by the Louisiana Department of Education for position
  • motor vehicle operator's license or ability to provide own transportation

Job Duties

  • Develops and administers district talented theater curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives
  • develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences
  • teaches knowledge and skills in the performing arts, particularly talented theater
  • conducts ongoing assessment of student skills and learning, modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs including special needs students
  • demonstrates techniques in the performing arts, specifically in theater
  • develops instructional plans and organizes class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and working time
  • evaluates each pupil's performance and growth, prepares progress reports
  • plans and presents exhibitions to exhibit pupils' work for the school and community
  • continues to acquire professional knowledge by attending seminars and workshops
  • organizes and maintains accurate records for all student activities and reporting
  • encourages parental involvement and ensures effective communication
  • ensures student conduct conforms to school standards and policies, establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior
  • coordinates with other school staff and participates in faculty meetings
  • selects and requisitions instructional materials and maintains inventory records
  • writes Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and keeps appropriate documentation
  • hosts IEP meetings and meets with parents and other stakeholders
  • monitors progress of IEP goals
  • fulfills responsibilities as directed by district staff
  • performs other related tasks as assigned by school administrators
