The Sushi Chef role is crucial to our culinary operations and directly impacts the reputation and success of our restaurant. As a Sushi Chef, you will be responsible for preparing a variety of sushi types, including maki, nigiri, and sashimi, with precision and care. This position demands expertise in handling raw fish and other ingredients safely and skillfully, ensuring that every plate meets our high-quality standards. You will be involved in managing food preparation activities, such as boiling rice and coordinating with wait staff to accommodate special dietary requests and allergies. Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen is integral to the role, as is monitoring food inventory and placing orders to keep the kitchen well-stocked and efficient.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience as a sushi chef or in a similar role
  • Familiarity with Japanese cuisine and sushi preparation methods
  • Ability to handle raw fish and other ingredients safely
  • Strong attention to detail and hygiene
  • Availability to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings
  • Good communication skills to coordinate with kitchen and wait staff

Job Qualifications

  • Work experience as a sushi chef or at an Asian restaurant
  • Good knowledge of various sushi types and sushi-rolling techniques
  • Ability to work both fast and accurately
  • Team spirit
  • Availability to work during business hours including weekends and evenings
  • Flexibility to take on various shifts

Job Duties

  • Prepare all types of sushi including maki nigiri and sashimi
  • Manage food prep activities like boiling rice
  • Coordinate with wait staff to ensure proper cooking considering special requests and food allergies
  • Monitor food stock and place orders as needed
  • Maintain hygiene principles in all cooking areas and clean your space at the end of the shift
