Job Description

Food City is a well-established, privately held, family-owned supermarket chain committed to being "the best store in town." With locations primarily in the Southeastern United States, Food City is dedicated not only to providing high-quality products and exceptional customer service but also to giving back to the communities it serves. The company fosters a strong sense of pride among its workforce, encouraged by an employee stock ownership program where over 13 percent of the company is owned by associates. Food City values its team members as its greatest asset and prioritizes creating a supportive work environment that offers flexible schedules to help maintain a healthy work-life balance. The company culture promotes engagement with local civic organizations, reflecting its commitment to community involvement. With a broad range of career opportunities spanning departments like baking, accounting, and trucking, Food City provides a promising pathway for individuals seeking growth and stability in their careers.

This position is for a Sushi Chef who will play an integral role within Food City's in-store fresh sushi program. The Sushi Chef is responsible for preparing high-quality sushi products while maintaining excellent standards of food safety and customer interaction. As this role demands preparation and assembly of sushi in a visible area in front of customers, cleanliness, organization, and efficiency are essential attributes for candidates. The Sushi Chef will be actively engaging with customers through frequent sampling and direct communication, requiring an outgoing and friendly demeanor coupled with extensive product knowledge. Responsibilities range from preparing various finfish, shellfish, and fresh produce to assembling and packaging sushi rolls and sides. The role also includes maintaining food safety records, training and assisting other associates, and ensuring compliance with all company and governmental food safety standards. Inventory management support, signage maintenance, and relaying customer feedback to department management are additional duties geared towards supporting the smooth operation of the sushi program.

This position emphasizes not only technical culinary skills but also the ability to connect with customers and promote the Food City Sushi Program effectively. The role demands consistent quality inspections, monitoring of ingredient temperatures and shelf lives, and a proactive approach to maintaining a neat and welcoming workstation. Candidates should be prepared to fulfill physical and mental demands inherent in food preparation and customer service environments. Food City offers an engaging setting for culinary professionals interested in contributing to a dynamic fresh food department, offering competitive benefits including 401(k) with company match, employee stock ownership, medical and dental plans, paid holidays and vacations, life and disability insurance, and more. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about sushi and customer service to join a reputable company with a strong community focus and promising career prospects.
