Established with a mission to 'run the best store in town,' Food City takes pride in being a major food retailer dedicated to outstanding customer satisfaction. The company emphasizes community involvement and encourages associates to participate in local civic organizations. Food City also values its employees greatly, with over 13% of the company owned by associates through an employee stock ownership plan, instilling a strong sense of pride and ownership in the services and products provided. Food City offers flexible work schedules to promote work-life balance and provides promising career opportunities across various fields including baking, accounting, and trucking, making it a versatile employer with a broad range of roles.
The sushi chef position at Food City is a dynamic and customer-facing role integral to the fresh sushi program in store. This role requires a highly skilled and personable individual responsible for preparing sushi products while engaging directly with customers. The sushi chef will prepare various types of finfish, shellfish, and fresh produce and will assemble, package, and label sushi, sides, and spring rolls for retail sale. An essential part of the job involves interacting frequently with customers, offering samples, answering questions regarding the sushi menu and ingredients, and promoting Food City's sushi program. The chef works in an open environment where cleanliness, organization, and food safety are paramount as preparation happens in front of the customers.
The role also involves training and assisting other associates, ensuring compliance with Food City policies as well as local, state, and federal food safety standards. The sushi chef must consistently monitor the quality of all sushi ingredients, maintain proper temperature controls and shelf lives, and keep workstations tidy and clean. This position requires someone outgoing, friendly, and professional who can contribute to a positive customer experience and help promote the company's fresh sushi offerings. The sushi chef also supports inventory management by assisting in ordering sushi supplies to maintain minimum inventory levels and aids in maintaining proper signage. Communication with the Meat Department Manager regarding customer feedback is another important aspect of the role.
Food City offers competitive benefits including 401(k) with company match, employee stock ownership plan, weekly paychecks with direct deposit, company-paid life and disability insurance, medical plan with wellness benefits, dental plan, paid holidays, paid vacations, and associate discounts. The role requires the employee to be at least 18 years old, physically capable of performing routine duties, able to follow instructions, and willing to maintain punctuality and adherence to attendance policies. This sushi chef position at Food City promises a rewarding career opportunity for individuals passionate about culinary arts and customer service within a supportive and community-focused company environment.
