Job Description
FedEx Freight, Inc. is a leading provider in the less-than-truckload (LTL) freight shipping industry, renowned for its commitment to excellence in freight transportation services. As part of the FedEx family, FedEx Freight operates a comprehensive network that delivers time-sensitive shipments with a dedication to reliability, efficiency, and customer satisfaction. The company values safety, innovation, and teamwork, ensuring that its employees are well-supported and opportunities for growth are readily available across its extensive operational facilities nationwide. FedEx Freight is an Equal Opportunity Employer that encourages inclusivity and provides support for candidates with disabilities throughout the application process. The company maintains a strong position in the logistics market by adhering to rigorous industry regulations, including Department of Transportation (DOT) rules, OSHA laws, and hazardous materials handling standards, which underscores its dedication to operational safety and compliance.
This role is for a leadership position within FedEx Freight focused on managing the daily functions of freight operations to ensure that all shipments move on time and without damage. The individual in this position will lead, educate, and develop company employees with an emphasis on retention and growth, fostering a positive and productive work environment. Responsibilities include supervising employee work activities with a focus on quality, safety, and customer deliverables while identifying opportunities for improvement. This role involves planning daily manpower requirements, setting work schedules, and ensuring compliance with service deadlines and safety regulations. The leader will actively engage with employees to monitor safety practices, provide immediate correction for unsafe acts or conditions, and employ corrective actions as needed. In addition to frontline leadership duties, the position includes administrative responsibilities such as assisting customers with rate quotes, managing claim information, scheduling appointments, and compiling performance reports.
Effective communication and relationship-building will be critical in coordinating with employees and business partners to uphold FedEx Freight's service standards. The job requires analytical skills to monitor freight classification and weights, manage over, short, and damaged (OS&D) items accurately, and identify cost-saving and efficiency improvements while maintaining strict safety standards. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of LTL industry standards, DOT and OSHA regulations, hazardous materials protocols, National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC), and company policies. This position requires a proactive leader who can work independently and within a team, adept at multitasking and highly organized, with excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. The work environment includes exposure to dock operations with varying weather conditions, fumes, noise, and other typical freight handling hazards, demanding flexibility in work hours according to operational needs. The position is located on-site, emphasizing in-person presence and leadership in the operational environment. FedEx Freight supports its employees with a comprehensive framework aimed at safety, compliance, and quality service delivery.
