Job Requirements

  • Meet minimum flight hour requirements including 1500 total flight hours, 250 pilot-in-command hours, 75 night flying hours, 500 instructor hours, and 75 instrument hours
  • Possess current FAA first or second-class medical certificate
  • Successfully complete a formal flight or simulator instructor course
  • Pass initial and periodic drug screening as part of the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program
  • Provide official military flight experience documentation if qualifying through military ratings
  • Demonstrate ongoing ability to pilot training aircraft and deliver formal instruction
  • Meet federal time-in-grade requirements if applying for GS-13 positions
  • Maintain knowledge of flight regulations and safety standards
  • Ability to function under mission essential and critical continuity standards

Job Qualifications

  • Possession of a current Commercial Pilot Certificate or appropriate military rating
  • Certified FAA Flight Instructor Certificate or military equivalent
  • Proven supervisory experience in aviation training or operations
  • Knowledge of aircraft systems, flight rules, and instructor techniques
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms
  • Demonstrated planning and organizational skills related to flight training programs
  • Experience with immersive training devices and simulators

Job Duties

  • Plan, direct, organize, and exercise control over nonsupervisory flight instructors
  • Ensure compliance with FAA and military flight regulations and certifications
  • Oversee execution of formal flight and ground training programs using simulators and live aircraft
  • Develop training plans and course materials aligned with combat systems training objectives
  • Evaluate instructor performance and provide ongoing feedback and improvement plans
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing to a variety of audiences
  • Maintain qualification standards for all instructional staff and ensure mission readiness
