Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a qualifying field or equivalent combination of education and experience
- One year of specialized experience at next lower grade level
- Meets time in grade requirements for GS-13
- Residency in the United States or its protectorates for at least three of the last five years or qualifying exemption
- Successful completion of thorough background investigation
- Submission of transcripts if not previously employed in GS-0401 series at CBP
- Availability to serve a one-year probationary period if new to federal government
- Disclosure of past political appointments if applicable
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, animal science, plant science, pest management, or related discipline
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-12 level performing duties such as technical consulting, regulatory advising, data compiling, legal application in agricultural inspection, and mentoring
- Experience in interpreting federal and state agricultural laws and regulations
- Ability to prepare detailed reports and maintain operational logs
- Skills in coaching and mentoring in a regulatory or inspection setting
Job Duties
- Serve as a technical consultant and provide guidance to CBPAS, CBP Officers, researchers, brokers, industry, travelers, Federal/state/local agencies on interpretative techniques and regulatory requirements pertaining to processing agriculture-related cargo
- Advise CBP management and industry on complex determinations including referral on entry requirements of agriculture-related cargo
- Compile data, maintain logs, and prepare daily/monthly work accomplishment reports on inspection operations
- Apply laws and regulations from Federal, state, and local agencies regarding admissibility of agriculture commodities and prevention of introduction of harmful pests, diseases, and agro-terrorism
- Serve as coach and mentor for lower level CBP Agriculture Specialists regularly
