Job Description
The Tulalip Tribes is a federally recognized Native American tribe located in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. Known for its rich cultural heritage and commitment to community well-being, the Tulalip Tribes manage a range of services and programs aimed at supporting their members and preserving their traditions. Among their many departments, TELA represents a cornerstone initiative dedicated to fostering healthy environments and nurturing young learners within their community. Employment opportunities within the Tulalip Tribes are uniquely influenced by tribal preference codes, emphasizing the hiring of Native American candidates whenever possible, thereby strengthening cultural ties and economic opportunities within the tribe. The employment opportunity presented here is a full-time position, reflecting the tribe's commitment to providing stable and meaningful careers for its members and community allies. The compensation for this role is $23.25 per hour, which aligns competitively with similar roles in the region, offering both financial stability and professional growth potential.
The position available at TELA involves a critical leadership role over the procurement, preparation, and service of food within the organization. The individual in this role will be responsible for planning and implementing a nutritious and culturally relevant six-week cycle menu that complies with the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) guidelines. This involves thoughtful menu creation that respects cultural food preferences alongside nutritional standards necessary for the healthy development of children served by the program. Beyond menu design, this role demands meticulous record-keeping, supervising kitchen staff, and ensuring that all kitchen operations adhere strictly to local and federal health and safety regulations. An important aspect of the job is to guarantee that the foods provided do not interfere with individual behavioral development in children; for example, avoiding the use of red dye and excessive sugars. The supervisory responsibilities extend to staff management, requiring not only leadership skills but also the ability to cultivate a positive and efficient kitchen environment. This role is essential to the overall success of TELA’s mission, intertwining nutritional excellence with cultural sensitivity and strong administrative capabilities, making it an impactful position within the Tulalip Tribes community and its educational programs.
