Job Description

McMenamins is a well-established company known for its vibrant network of pubs, breweries, restaurants, and historic hotels that offer a distinctive blend of food, drink, and cultural experiences. The company has built a strong reputation for its commitment to community, excellent customer service, and unique ambiance that combines hospitality with local art, music, and history. McMenamins operates primarily in the Pacific Northwest, cultivating a loyal customer base and providing memorable experiences through its engaging environments and diverse offerings. As a company, they prioritize employee well-being, inclusivity, and the delivery of top-tier service, making them a respected employer in the hospitality industry. The Server (Pub) role at McMenamins is an essential position that supports both front-of-house and occasional back-of-house functions in a dynamic pub environment. This is an hourly, non-exempt position reporting directly to the manager. The role requires adaptability and versatility, as servers handle a wide variety of tasks from the moment the pub opens until it closes. Responsibilities include serving food and beverages such as beer, wine, and spirits, greeting and seating guests, maintaining table service by bussing and waiting on tables, and operating the point-of-sale (POS) system to manage transactions efficiently. In addition to customer-facing duties, servers may also assist with restocking supplies, dishwashing, and general cleaning to maintain a clean and welcoming environment. A successful server at McMenamins must be agile, capable of multitasking in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented setting, and demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills. Physical stamina is also essential, as the job includes long periods of standing, walking, carrying heavy items, and working in both indoor and outdoor environments, sometimes under varied weather conditions. Servers interact with a diverse clientele and colleagues, so valuing diversity and promoting a positive workplace atmosphere are fundamental. Additionally, employees at McMenamins are expected to stay informed about company products, events, and history, enabling them to enrich customer interactions and contribute to the pub’s unique character. Working hours for this position are flexible and may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. The role also emphasizes safety; employees must work safely, report any concerns promptly, and comply with all food handling and liquor licensing requirements specific to the region. Overall, this position offers an exciting opportunity for individuals who enjoy engaging with people, thrive in fast-moving environments, and are committed to excellent service. McMenamins encourages team spirit, a positive attitude, and making work fun while maintaining professionalism and respect for all patrons and staff.
