Job Description

The City of Fairborn Parks & Recreation Division is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for its residents through diverse recreational and cultural activities. This role is central to coordinating, implementing, and promoting engaging summer programming aimed at youth, families, and the broader community. The Summer Recreation Leader coordinates a broad spectrum of activities including summer camps, nature programs, arts and crafts, field games, and community festivals, ensuring these programs align with the Division’s mission of improving life quality through recreation. Beyond event coordination, the leader assists in developing new recreational opportunities by continuously assessing community needs and interests, cultivating partnerships with local businesses and organizations, and seeking alternative funding sources to enhance program offerings. The Summer Recreation Leader also performs administrative functions such as preparing reports and supporting enrollment processes, requiring proficiency in modern office practices and computer skills. This position demands flexibility to work varied hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, reflecting the nature of community events. A crucial aspect of the role involves supervising youth programming and maintaining positive relationships within the community, demonstrating strong interpersonal and leadership abilities. Job Requirements

  • Any combination of education and experience necessary to meet job responsibilities
  • minimum some completed course work in a related field
  • equivalent of at least two years of related recreation experience
  • valid Ohio Driver's License
  • ability to work various hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • experience with children and recreation education programs preferred

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum of some completed course work in a related field
  • equivalent of at least two years of directly related recreation experience
  • valid Ohio Driver's License
  • experience with children and sports, nature, or recreation education programs preferred
  • knowledge of business and recreational development principles
  • proficiency with modern office practices and computer programs
  • ability to supervise and instruct youth programming
  • strong interpersonal and communication skills

Job Duties

  • Assist in continuous research and identification of community recreational and cultural needs
  • assist in developing and maintaining partnerships with businesses, groups, and city departments
  • aid in gaining alternative funding sources for recreational programs
  • coordinate and implement summer camps, nature activities, arts and crafts, field games, and community festivals
  • support the primary coordinator with all Parks & Recreation Division recreational offerings
  • respond to requests for recreation information and assist with online program enrollment
  • prepare reports and correspondence as required by the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent
