The City of Fairborn Parks and Recreation Division is dedicated to enhancing community life through comprehensive recreational and cultural activities. The Summer Recreation Leader will work under the direction of the Parks & Recreation Assistant Superintendent and the Parks & Recreation Programmer, playing a pivotal role in coordinating, implementing, and promoting all recreational opportunities throughout the summer season. The leader's responsibilities include developing and leading youth and family programming that reflects the community's interests and needs, as identified through ongoing research and community engagement. Key duties involve program and event coordination, oversight of summer camps and nature activities, and working at special community events. The role also demands administrative aptitude to prepare reports and assist with maintaining partnership relations with local businesses and organizations to augment program offerings and funding. This position is instrumental in helping the division capitalize on alternative funding opportunities and ensure smooth program registration processes for participants. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills, a collaborative spirit, and the ability to adapt to varying work hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. The role requires someone who is passionate about community recreation and capable of instructing and supervising youth programs effectively. Job Requirements
- Education equivalent to some completed course work in a related field
- Minimum of two years of directly related recreation experience
- Must have a valid Ohio driver’s license
- Ability to work various hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to handle deadlines and multitask
- Experience working with children and youth programming is preferred
Job Qualifications
- Some completed coursework in a related field or equivalent of at least two years of directly related recreation experience
- Valid Ohio driver’s license
- Experience with children and sports, nature, or recreation education programs preferred
- Knowledge and practices of business and recreational development principles
- Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures
- Ability to work varied hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to manage deadlines and prioritize work
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, vendors, and the public
- Proficiency in computer programs used in the office
- Skill in the use of standard office equipment
- Ability to supervise, monitor, and/or instruct youth programming
Job Duties
- Assist in continuous research and identification of community needs and interests related to parks and recreation
- Assist in developing and maintaining partnership relations with community businesses, groups, and city departments
- Help gain alternative funding sources to support recreational offerings
- Assist in coordinating and implementing summer camps, nature activities including arts and crafts, field games, and community festivals
- Support the primary coordinator in all recreational offerings of the Parks & Recreation Division
- Respond to requests for recreation information and assist individuals with online program enrollment
- Prepare reports and correspondence as requested by Parks & Recreation leadership
