Job Description
Rising Sun Center for Opportunity is a mission-driven social enterprise deeply committed to addressing the intersection of equity, climate action, and sustainable career pathways. Founded in 1994 as the Rising Sun Energy Center in Santa Cruz, California, the organization has continuously evolved to meet the needs of historically underserved communities throughout the Bay Area and Central California. Their focused efforts support individuals who have been systematically excluded from opportunities to prosper in green jobs and pathways, striving to promote economic equity and mobility to build a climate-resilient future for all. Rising Sun has been a beacon of hope and empowerment through its innovative programs that combine environmental sustainability with workforce development, particularly for youth and marginalized groups. The organization emphasizes community engagement, education, and hands-on experience to ensure that its program participants can successfully enter and thrive in the growing green economy.
The available role is the Summer Outreach Coordinator position under the Climate Careers Central Valley program, specifically titled Summer Program Manager (SPM). This unique role is employed on a seasonal contract basis from June 3 to August 7, 2026, offering $26.00 per hour for 40 hours each week. The position focuses on implementing the Climate Careers program in various Central Valley cities, with offices in Stockton, Lathrop, Madera, Merced, Fresno, and Visalia. Each site employs two Summer Program Managers who oversee the program's Green House Call service delivery and participant supervision. This program engages youth (ages 15-24), equipping them with skills in energy and water use assessments and installations, while fostering their professional and personal growth.
As the Summer Program Manager, you will have a multifaceted role that involves community outreach, youth mentorship, and administrative oversight to ensure the success of the Climate Careers program at your site. You will supervise a team of nine youth participants, including Energy Specialists, their drivers, and a Leader-in-Field-Training (LIFT). Your responsibilities will specifically include onboarding, training, scheduling, and supporting these young professionals as they deliver green home services to clients across the community. You will assist in client outreach through phone banking, appointment coordination, and maintaining exemplary customer service standards to ensure client satisfaction.
This role requires a dynamic individual who thrives in fast-paced environments and balances multiple priorities ranging from administrative duties—such as payroll, attendance tracking, and inventory management—to hands-on youth supervision and direct community engagement. Effective communication, proficiency with technology and software platforms such as Google Suite, Salesforce, and Rippling, and a passion for youth development are essential qualities for this role. The program also cultivates leadership skills by training the LIFT to foster peer leadership conducive to professional growth.
Furthermore, this position demands candidates who are reliable, motivated, empathetic, and able to create a goal-oriented, energetic, and fun workplace. Flexibility to work late on Wednesdays, adhere to organizational policies, and pass background and driving record checks is mandatory. Candidates will also benefit from bilingual language skills in Spanish, Hmong, Cantonese, Tagalog, Vietnamese, or others, though this is preferred, not required.
In summary, the Summer Program Manager role at Rising Sun Center for Opportunity offers an exceptional opportunity to contribute to climate resilience, youth empowerment, and community development while gaining hands-on experience in environmental services and program management. This in-person role is rooted in the organization’s strong values of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and offers a supportive environment that encourages growth and professional advancement within the sustainability sector.
