Job Description

Housing and Food Services (HFS) at the University of Washington is a vital department dedicated to supporting over 10,000 student residents and operating more than 40 dining locations on campus. With a robust team of over 1,200 staff members and students, HFS excels in delivering exceptional service and enhancing campus life through teamwork and a shared commitment to quality. Housing and Food Services plays a crucial role in creating a welcoming and functional living and dining environment that respects the diversity and dynamic needs of the university community.

HFS is currently seeking dedicated Summer Housekeepers to join its Summer Conference Program. This program operates primarily in the summer months when the residence halls are vacated after the spring quarter. During this period, rooms and facilities are offered to visiting conference groups affiliated with the university's educational and professional development missions. These conferences range across a variety of groups including business, professional organizations, sports camps, youth groups, and foreign study programs. This temporary role is key to ensuring the smooth operation and high standards of cleanliness and organization of conference accommodations.

As a Summer Housekeeper, you will play an essential role in maintaining the quality and readiness of overnight guest rooms within the residence halls throughout the summer. Your responsibilities will also extend to the preparation and upkeep of meeting and dining room facilities used by conference guests. This role requires careful attention to detail, physical stamina, and the ability to work collaboratively with fellow staff members across multiple departments such as conference services, desk services, dining, and facilities management.

The position offers a competitive pay rate starting at $21.77 per hour, with the potential to rise to $23.91 per hour. Summer Housekeepers are scheduled to work between 20 and 40 hours per week, with schedules varying based on conference activity and operational needs. Work shifts typically occur from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and may include weekends and traditional holidays such as Juneteenth, July 4th, and Labor Day. The position emphasizes flexibility, teamwork, and dedication to uphold the University of Washington’s high customer service standards.

This role involves physically demanding tasks including repetitive bending, lifting, moving heavy furniture, and managing waste and recycling operations. Therefore, candidates must be prepared for such activities and possess a sensitivity to working within a team environment. The program includes a mandatory in-person training session to ensure staff are well-prepared to meet performance expectations and deliver excellent service.

Working with the University of Washington offers more than just a job. It provides an opportunity to join a diverse, intellectually vibrant community committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere. Employees benefit from excellent professional development opportunities and work within an environment that values creativity, respect, and continuous growth. As an equal opportunity employer, the university fosters a work culture that is inclusive and supportive of all individuals, regardless of their background or identity.

If you are energetic, detail-oriented, and enjoy contributing to a supportive team environment while embracing the physical demands of housekeeping, this summer role with Housing and Food Services at the University of Washington is a great opportunity to earn competitive pay and gain valuable experience in a respected institution.
