Job Description
The YMCA, a nationally recognized nonprofit organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, is dedicated to fostering an inclusive, supportive environment for all individuals. With a rich history of service and community engagement, the YMCA operates a vast network of facilities and programs designed to meet the needs of diverse populations across communities. This particular role is situated within the YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina, an organization that embodies a mission-driven culture emphasizing belonging, personal growth, collaboration, and determination to make meaningful community impact. The YMCA prioritizes inclusivity and welcomes all individuals to join and contribute to the community’s strengthening and enrichment efforts.
The Summer Food Services Associate position is a vital part-time, seasonal role focused on supporting the organization's Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). Running typically from May to August, this program plays an essential role in ensuring that children and community members have access to nutritious meals during the summer months when school is not in session. The Associate will be actively involved in day-to-day operational support, ensuring the smooth execution of meal distribution while adhering to the stringent USDA and state regulatory guidelines. The role requires a proactive and organized individual who can work collaboratively with a diverse group of staff, volunteers, site supervisors, and partnering organizations. The position involves responsibilities such as assisting with meal delivery logistics, maintaining food safety standards, supporting inventory management, and documenting compliance records.
This opportunity is ideal for candidates who value community service and want to contribute to a program that directly benefits food-insecure populations during critical times. The position offers a wage of $14.00 to $15.50 per hour and is classified as non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act. The role demands flexibility, including availability for evenings and weekends as needed, and requires physical readiness to perform duties such as lifting up to 40 pounds and working outdoors in varying weather conditions. Candidates must hold a valid driver's license, have reliable transportation, and be capable of passing a background check.
Working at the YMCA means joining a culture centered on mission advancement, genuine respect for individuals’ uniqueness, and collaboration across all levels. Employees engage in professional development opportunities and receive comprehensive part-time benefits including complimentary YMCA membership, flexible scheduling, retirement benefits, and access to employee resource groups. The organization places a strong emphasis on safety, providing CPR and First Aid certification and ensuring a secure environment for all staff and participants. This role offers an opportunity not just to work a job, but to become part of a community committed to fostering hope, nurturing potential, and collectively strengthening the fabric of society.
