Job Description

The YMCA of Memphis & the Mid-South is a well-established nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. With a rich history of serving the Memphis area, the YMCA is committed to providing quality programs and services that improve the lives of individuals and families. The organization is a leading voice for community engagement and wellness, focusing on creating a positive impact through various initiatives including youth programs, health and fitness activities, and social responsibility efforts. As a part of this nonprofit, employees are immersed in a values-driven environment that champions collaboration, operational effectiveness, and personal growth. The YMCA of Memphis & the Mid-South places a strong emphasis on safety, inclusivity, and continuous improvement in all aspects of its work.

The YMCA Nutrition Services Truck Driver role is a vital position within the organization’s operations team, directly supporting its mission by ensuring the efficient and reliable delivery of nutritious food products across various community sites. This part-time position, with a typical schedule involving Tuesday through Saturday workdays between 8 am and 5:30 pm, is integral to the success of the YMCA’s Summer Food Operations and other nutrition-focused programs. With a competitive hourly wage of $20.00, the role demands a balance of physical endurance, technical skills, and high-level customer service.

Under the general supervision of the Senior Director of Operations, the truck driver is responsible for managing the assigned vehicles, products, and delivery routes. This includes the critical tasks of loading and unloading trucks efficiently and accurately, performing basic vehicle maintenance such as fueling diesel and checking emissions fluids, and ensuring cleanliness and orderliness of the fleet. The role also involves assisting with the setup of sites through the transport and arrangement of food boxes, tents, sandwich boards, flags, and yard signs. Drivers must be able to navigate local routes safely, comply with traffic laws, and report any incidents or delays promptly.

This role requires significant physical activity, including the repeated manual lifting of heavy items over 50 pounds and proficient usage of equipment like two-wheel dollies. Drivers must operate safely under various weather conditions and maintain a high degree of reliability and professionalism when interacting with staff and community members. The YMCA expects its drivers to embody their leadership competencies, including mission advancement, collaboration, operational effectiveness, and personal growth, to foster a respectful and effective working environment.

The successful candidate will be skilled in the use of smartphones and navigation applications to manage routes efficiently and must be able to pass a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check. Previous commercial driving experience or experience in food delivery services is preferred.
