Job Description
The Kalispel Tribe of Indians is a sovereign tribal government located in the Pacific Northwest, committed to preserving its heritage while fostering economic development and community well-being for its members and the surrounding region. The Tribe operates various enterprises, including gaming, hospitality, and cultural heritage programs, all aligned with the goal of supporting self-sufficiency and providing quality services to its people. As an employer, the Kalispel Tribe of Indians is known for fostering an inclusive, respectful work environment that emphasizes employee development and community engagement. The organization applies Indian preference in employment consistent with federal law, demonstrating a strong commitment to supporting its tribal members and upholding cultural values.
The Kalispel Tribe is currently seeking a dedicated and skilled Cook to join their culinary team. This position plays a vital role in the daily kitchen operations, responsible for preparing and presenting food according to established recipes, quality standards, and strict safety guidelines, including HACCP and FDA regulations. The Cook ensures compliance with the Tribe's internal policies and controls while contributing to a clean, efficient, and high-performing culinary environment. The role requires proficiency in various cooking methods, the ability to follow detailed recipes and control procedures, and an eye for quality and presentation. The Cook will assist the Sous Chef with specialty dishes, perform quality control checks before, during, and after food preparation, and help maintain proper food rotation to guarantee freshness.
In this role, the Cook must be adaptable to changing schedules based on business needs and may be called upon to participate as a panelist for Internal Review Hearings as needed. The position does not have supervisory responsibilities but demands excellent communication skills, collaboration with other team members and department heads, and the ability to solve workplace problems proactively. Physical demands include frequent standing, walking, lifting, and handling food items, requiring stamina and the ability to work in a dynamic kitchen environment that may include exposure to noise, smoke, and temperature variations.
Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, with at least one year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in high-volume cooking environments is advantageous. Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a Tribal Work Permit and possess a valid health card or Serve Safe certification. The Kalispel Tribe offers equal employment opportunities with an emphasis on Indian preference, maintaining a drug-free workplace and requiring background investigations to ensure the safety and integrity of its operations.
This role is ideal for individuals passionate about culinary arts who are looking to contribute to a culturally rich and supportive environment, uphold the highest standards of food safety and quality, and grow their skills within a respected tribal organization.
