Job Description
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is a globally recognized humanitarian non-governmental organization dedicated to responding to some of the world's most severe humanitarian crises. Established in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein, the IRC has grown to become one of the largest international NGOs working in over 40 countries and 29 cities across the United States. The organization's mission is to help people whose lives have been shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover, and regain control over their future by restoring health, safety, education, economic wellbeing, and power. The IRC's commitment extends beyond immediate relief to fostering long-term stability and resilience in communities affected by hardships. The IRC office in Miami has a rich history dating back to the 1960s, where it has provided essential support to refugees, survivors of human trafficking, unaccompanied minors, immigrant youth, and their families, ensuring they receive critical aid and integration assistance.
This role is for a Community Engagement Intern within the Florida Anti-Trafficking team, which plays a critical role in building strong, mutually beneficial relationships between the community and IRC’s anti-trafficking programs in Miami and Tallahassee. The internship is designed to support the mission by enhancing the organization's capacity to provide needed resources—monetary, in-kind, and volunteer—to survivors of trafficking. Under the guidance of the Safety & Wellness Program Manager and the local Anti-Trafficking teams, the intern will engage in various activities that directly contribute to resource development, community outreach, and program compliance with donor requirements. This position offers a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in nonprofit operations, community engagement, and anti-trafficking advocacy. Although unpaid, this hybrid internship promises rich exposure to the NGO sector and meaningful involvement in life-changing humanitarian work. The internship requires a commitment of 15 hours per week for at least three consecutive months, ideally through the Spring 2026 semester. The role involves maintaining accurate data on community prospects, assisting with event planning and fundraising, attending engagement events and staff meetings, and taking on various tasks to support the smaller but impactful anti-trafficking program. Through this internship, participants will develop organizational, communication, and project management skills while contributing to IRC’s broader goals of restoring dignity and hope to vulnerable populations.
