Job Description

ESS is a leader in the education staffing sector, specializing in providing qualified support staff to K-12 school districts across the United States since 2000. They place substitute teachers, paraprofessionals, and various school support personnel in daily, long-term, and permanent roles. With a reach that covers 34 states and a partnership network of 900 school districts, ESS serves more than 5 million students through a dedicated team of 650 passionate education professionals. The company prides itself on delivering dynamic staffing solutions that benefit both the school districts and the employees while promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.

The Substitute Food Service Worker role at ESS is essential in supporting nutritious and safe meal service to students within school environments. This position involves working under the supervision of the head cook or school administration to assist in the preparation, merchandising, and serving of food items according to established federal, state, and local guidelines. Safety and sanitation are paramount, and workers are expected to maintain a clean and orderly food service environment compliant with state sanitation regulations. The role may also include responsibilities such as running cash registers and assisting with inventory and record keeping related to food supplies.

The job offers flexibility in scheduling, enabling substitutes to select the days and locations they prefer to work, with the opportunity to work up to five days per week. ESS supports its substitutes with comprehensive benefits including health, dental, vision, life, disability, critical illness, and accident insurance options. Employees benefit from weekly pay and access to a 401(k) retirement plan, interactive and accessible training modules, and various employee incentive programs including monthly raffles and referral bonuses. This position demands physical stamina due to activities such as frequent standing, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds, and occasional exposure to cold environments.

With a strong commitment to diversity and equal opportunity employment, ESS fosters an inclusive workplace where employees of all backgrounds can thrive. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with children and school staff, are committed to maintaining high standards of food safety, and seek a flexible work opportunity in the education sector. ESS ensures that applicants undergo necessary district and state-required verification, including background checks and fingerprinting.
