Job Description

The Career Success and Workforce Development Center at Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) is dedicated to empowering students and supporting their journey from education to professional success. As a dynamic educational institution, OCCC is committed to providing comprehensive career services and workforce development resources that align with the needs of students and employers alike. The center plays a pivotal role in preparing students for the job market by facilitating career-related events, employer engagement opportunities, and providing valuable resources to enhance student career readiness. The College prides itself on fostering an inclusive and supportive environment where students can grow both personally and professionally. This is accomplished through various tailored programs and collaborations with local businesses and industries to ensure that the skills developed by students meet current workforce demands.

The role of Student Event Planner and Marketing Assistant within the Career Success and Workforce Development Center offers an excellent opportunity for current OCCC students to gain practical experience in event coordination, marketing, and administrative support within an educational setting. This position is a student employment opportunity under the Federal Work Study Program or Scholarship program, with a placement range of $10.00 per hour and a work schedule that does not exceed 25 hours per week. The student employed in this capacity will assist in organizing and implementing a wide array of department events such as career fairs, workshops, forums, employer visits, and other engagement activities targeting students and local businesses. These events are crucial as they offer students direct exposure to potential employers and provide networking opportunities that enhance career prospects.

In addition to event planning, the role involves assisting with marketing efforts by creating promotional materials, drafting communications such as emails, flyers, and posters, and collaborating closely with the marketing department to ensure effective outreach. The assistant will maintain organized records by developing and managing spreadsheets to track event logistics, employer contacts, and student participation. Attention to detail and strong organizational skills are imperative to maintain a digital and physical filing system that supports the center's operations efficiently.

This position also entails research duties, including investigating industry trends, employer outreach opportunities, and best practices in career services to continually improve the center's programs. The student will serve as a primary contact point for students and employers seeking information or assistance, requiring excellent communication skills and professionalism in interactions via phone, email, or in person. The role demands the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, contributing positively to the overall environment of the Career Success and Workforce Development Center.

Physical requirements are consistent with a sedentary office job, predominantly involving computer and office equipment use. The position requires compliance with safety and health procedures as per OCCC policies, including participation in health and safety training and emergency drills. As this is an onsite role, the student will work primarily between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with flexible scheduling not exceeding 25 hours per week.

This employment opportunity is ideal for students seeking to enhance their resume with relevant experience in event coordination, marketing, and administrative support within a professional educational setting. Candidates must be currently enrolled as an OCCC student meeting specified credit hour requirements or possessing a Federal Work Study award. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite tools such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is preferred, and a strong sense of responsibility and dependability is essential for success in this role. The student will report directly to the Director of Career Services and Workforce Development, contributing significantly to the department's mission of fostering student success and workforce readiness.
