Job Description
The University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) is a well-established institution dedicated to providing quality education and comprehensive student services. Among its many offerings, UCO features a vibrant Housing & Dining program, which includes various food venues on campus designed to enhance student life through unique dining experiences and event programming. One notable venue is Sidelines, a late-night dining option that is not just about food but also about bringing the campus community together through exciting and engaging events. The Sideliners, a student-led organization, spearheads these programming efforts, organizing popular events like weekly karaoke nights, Just Dance competitions, watch parties for various sports, and UFC fight nights, creating a dynamic and interactive social space for students.
This position is specifically for a seasonal, regular student labor role serving as the Event Coordinator within Sidelines. It is designed for students seeking an opportunity to be directly involved in campus life while gaining valuable organizational and event management experience. The role requires a hands-on approach and involves heavy physical and manual labor, emphasizing the importance of being physically capable as well as enthusiastic about event coordination. The position entails working approximately five hours per week, predominantly on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Given the role's physical nature and time commitment, it is ideal for students who are looking to balance their academic responsibilities with meaningful campus engagement.
As an Event Coordinator, the student will be responsible for managing one of two regularly scheduled karaoke or trivia events at Sidelines. This includes the preparation and set-up of event equipment, overseeing and hosting activities during the events, and handling all post-event cleanup and teardown. The coordinator also plays an important role in promoting events to maximize student participation and engagement. They will collaborate closely with the Suites Hall Director and Facilities Director for any follow-up regarding issues or suggestions that arise during events. This position not only offers experience in event planning and management but also in leadership, communication, and customer service within a campus dining environment.
The role requires enrollment as at least a half-time student during the fall and spring semesters to be eligible for employment at UCO, with specific credit hour requirements for undergraduates, graduates, and international students. During the summer semester, there are adjusted enrollment requirements based on regular student employment or Federal Work Study Program participation. Exceptions are considered for students nearing graduation with fewer than the minimum required credit hours, provided proper documentation is submitted.
This seasonal role at Sidelines is an excellent opportunity for students interested in event coordination, hospitality management, and campus involvement. It offers practical experience alongside academic pursuits and contributes positively to the vibrant student community at UCO. By working as an Event Coordinator at Sidelines, students develop valuable skills in event marketing, problem resolution, and teamwork while actively contributing to the culture and social life on campus.
