Job Description
New Seasons Market began in 2000 as a neighborhood market dedicated to serving local communities by connecting them with the origins of their food. It is a friendly and inviting grocery establishment that honors the region's farmers, ranchers, growers, and makers. As part of Good Food Holdings, a collection of regional specialty grocers, New Seasons Market remains committed to providing the highest quality products and exceptional service. The organization’s core mission is to build community through good food, celebrating diverse backgrounds and experiences, and fostering an inclusive work environment for its team members.
This position is for a Store Chef within the Prepared Foods department located at the Mountain Park New Seasons Market in Lake Oswego, Oregon. Reporting to the Prepared Foods Manager, the Store Chef is a non-exempt hourly role with a pay range between $22.50 and $32.50 per hour. As a retail grocer operating 7 days a week and 365 days per year, this role requires flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays in accordance with business needs.
The Store Chef partners with the Prepared Foods Manager to oversee daily department operations, including financial management, customer service, merchandising, and food safety. This role involves planning and overseeing the production of prepared food products according to company recipes and standards, maintaining high-quality food preparation, and ensuring consistency throughout the department. The Store Chef also plays a critical role in fostering a positive and collaborative work environment by training, coaching, and supporting team members. Aside from direct production duties, the position demands maintaining inventory levels, ordering ingredients, managing vendor relationships, and executing merchandising plans, particularly for weekly ads, seasonal events, and holidays.
This role requires strong leadership capabilities, culinary expertise including solid knife skills, large batch food production experience, knowledge of culinary terminology and kitchen equipment, basic math skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office. Candidates should demonstrate excellent customer service orientation, financial acumen, and the ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced retail environment. Ensuring adherence to food and workplace safety policies and contributing to store cleanliness and safety are also vital responsibilities.
The physical demands of the role include frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, and lifting items up to 50 pounds occasionally. The work environment can include temperature extremes such as cooler and freezer areas, wet surfaces, and exposure to allergens or chemicals, consistent with a grocery store setting.
New Seasons Market offers a comprehensive benefits package including employee assistance programs, a generous staff discount, medical, dental, vision, pre-tax spending accounts, life and disability insurance, 401(k) participation, paid time off accruing from the first day, paid holidays, supplemental leave pay, store incentive programs, volunteer time off, transportation discounts, adoption assistance, and birthday reimbursements.
