Job Description

Goodwill Industries of Central Florida (GICF) is a respected non-profit organization with over sixty years of dedicated service to the Central Florida community. As a trusted partner in providing job training, job placement services, and various support programs, GICF is committed to empowering individuals to reach their fullest potential and thrive economically. The organization not only focuses on employment assistance but also fosters a positive work culture that encourages teamwork, personal growth, and a strong sense of community among its staff and participants. Additionally, GICF has a strong commitment to sustainability, having diverted more than 20 million pounds of textile and non-compostable waste from local landfills, demonstrating their dedication to environmental stewardship alongside their social missions.

As a Store Cashier at Goodwill Industries of Central Florida, you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional customer service while handling cash register operations efficiently and accurately. This is an excellent employment opportunity for individuals who enjoy a customer-focused role in a supportive and inclusive environment. The position is expected to provide excellent service by greeting customers and donors with professionalism and friendliness, conducting all sales transactions, and assisting customers with any queries or directing them to appropriate store areas. The role emphasizes both accuracy and speed, requiring attention to detail when processing payments, issuing receipts, and managing various transaction types such as cash, check, charge cards, voids, and gift cards, including participation in the Change Round Up program.

The Store Cashier’s responsibilities extend beyond transactions to maintaining a clean and orderly register area, ensuring high standards of presentation throughout the store, and assisting sales floor employees with stocking and recovery tasks when necessary. This role requires standing and walking for long periods, occasional lifting of up to 40 pounds, and performing activities such as stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Given the physical nature of some duties, candidates should be prepared for an active work environment with moderate noise levels similar to a business office with computers and printers.

To be successful in this role, candidates should be at least 18 years old and possess a high school diploma or equivalent, although prior retail or cashiering experience is highly valued. Basic computer skills and a beginner’s understanding of touchscreen cash registers are also necessary to handle the point-of-sale technology efficiently. Goodwill’s commitment to inclusivity and compassion means that employees are welcomed into a team that values diversity and the transformative power of work through personal and professional development.

Working at Goodwill Industries of Central Florida offers more than just a job—it’s an opportunity to contribute to an organization that is making a meaningful difference in the community by supporting individuals in building better lives. Join this team to be part of a mission-driven workplace with strong values of sustainability, compassion, inclusivity, and economic empowerment. Your role as a Store Cashier will help ensure that the positive customer experience is at the forefront of the organization’s efforts, directly impacting shopping patrons and donors alike. This position invites applicants who are motivated by service excellence, teamwork, and a shared vision to improve lives through gainful employment and community support.
