Job Description
The hiring establishment is a healthcare facility known for its commitment to providing high-quality nutritional services and maintaining strict standards of hygiene and safety. This organization operates a food service department dedicated to supporting patient care through efficient meal preparation, dish handling, and cleanliness maintenance. This institution values a culture of respect, sensitivity, and inclusiveness among its staff, emphasizing teamwork and proactive communication to meet departmental needs effectively.
This healthcare food service role is designed for individuals who will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation within the kitchen and dining areas, ensuring patient trays and dishware are handled properly according to established Kosher regulations and strict infection control protocols. The position operates on-site and offers a competitive hourly salary range of $16.16 to $24.99, reflecting the importance of the role in supporting patient safety and dietary compliance.
As a member of the culinary team, the individual will work under the supervision of a Culinary Supervisor and perform a variety of duties to ensure smooth operations within the food service department. Core competencies include adherence to cultural beliefs, respectful and sensitive communication, awareness and respect of diverse cultural backgrounds, and teamwork. The role involves routine tasks such as setting up and breaking down dishwashing equipment, sorting and loading dishes, sanitizing kitchen tools and food carts, and managing waste disposal.
The position requires hands-on physical work including sweeping, mopping floors, and lifting up to 50 pounds regularly, reflecting the demands typical of a busy healthcare food service environment. Employees are expected to wear approved uniforms, slip-resistant shoes, and visible ID badges at all times for safety and compliance. Additionally, they must be vigilant about spotting and reporting safety hazards like spills to maintain a safe workplace.
Continuous improvement is encouraged, with the employee expected to recognize operational problems, communicate effectively with leadership, and contribute to quality improvement initiatives. Attendance at regular meetings and serving as a resource or mentor to new staff members or students may also be part of the role. The individual should remain updated with internal policies and processes and follow infection control techniques rigorously, including proper handwashing and the use of personal protective equipment.
Ideal candidates are those with previous food service experience, preferably within a healthcare setting, and who are fluent in English. Physical stamina and comfort with the environmental elements of food service areas, including exposure to heat, cold, odors, and moisture, are necessary. The job fosters a supportive work culture that values diversity and encourages staff engagement, making it suitable for individuals looking to grow their career while contributing to health-focused food services within a reputable healthcare organization.
