Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • In lieu of GED, must have a minimum 2 years related experience and demonstrate the skills listed under Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Ability to withstand sudden temperature changes from heat of kitchen to cold of the freezers
  • Ability to read, write and understand English
  • Basic math and computer skills are necessary
  • Must be capable of using a computer, including basic software programs and Microsoft Outlook
  • Ability to identify chemicals and proper use of equipment
  • Ability to follow infection control policies and procedures
  • Ability to follow all Food and Nutrition Services policies and procedures (ISDH, JCAHO)
  • Knowledge of safe food handling practices
  • Ability to use age appropriate communication skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a professional, courteous manner with food service staff and other hospital staff

Job Duties

  • Maintains the overall cleanliness and organization of the dish area by washing, sanitizing, organizing, and putting away dishes and kitchen equipment
  • Stocks all assigned areas with service equipment including kitchenware, utensils, dishes and glassware
  • Maintains sanitation and cleanliness of the walk in cooler, freezer, dry stock and storage rooms, walls, floors, racks and bins
  • Empties trash throughout assigned work area as needed
  • Identifies and safely uses chemical cleaning agents stocked for various pieces of service equipment, table tops, floors, and dish machine
  • Upholds a professional attitude and embodies excellent customer service when interacting with guests, visitors, patients, and other employees
  • Assists with stocking food and/or delivery items in accordance with first-in first-out (FIFO) rotation system
