Job Description
Hypsi is the signature restaurant located within the newly opened Hotel Daphne in Houston Heights, a vibrant and historic neighborhood in Houston, Texas. This establishment is part of the Bunkhouse/Hyatt family, known for cultivating unique hospitality experiences through a commitment to quality and community. Hotel Daphne positions itself as a boutique hotel that embodies a welcoming atmosphere combined with elevated service and distinctive design. Serving as a cornerstone of this vision is Hypsi, an Italian-inspired restaurant blending traditional and contemporary elements with an unmistakable Houston spirit. The restaurant has launched with dinner service and plans to expand soon to breakfast and lunch offerings, showcasing a rich pasta program alongside elegant yet approachable entrées. Hypsi’s unique dining experience is further enhanced by a signature roaming mozzarella cart featuring hand-pulled cheeses accompanied by curated add-ons such as pickled vegetables, aged vinegars, and cold-pressed olive oil. This new culinary destination seeks to create enriching guest experiences through its food, ambiance, and dedicated team.
We are currently seeking a full-time Steward to join the Hypsi team, an essential role in maintaining operational efficiency and cleanliness within the kitchen and dining areas. Reporting directly to the Sous Chef(s), the Steward will play a critical role in supporting both the front and back of house operations. This position is fast-paced and requires an individual with exceptional attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the physical ability to perform various duties involving cleaning, handling of restaurant equipment and supplies, and ensuring safety standards are consistently met. The Steward's responsibilities include washing dishes, kitchen utensils, and food preparation tools, managing cleanliness standards throughout the kitchen work areas, and assisting with inventory logistics such as unloading deliveries and restocking supplies. This role ensures that every dish leaving the kitchen is supported behind the scenes by spotless, well-maintained tools and a hygienic environment, contributing directly to customer satisfaction and the smooth functioning of restaurant operations.

Job Requirements
- Able to perform the essential functions consistent safely and successfully with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting quality standards
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs
- Must be able to sit, stand, and squat frequently
Job Qualifications
- Six (6) months related experience in hospitality or service industry preferred
- Ability to speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) of the workplace
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedures manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees or guests
Job Duties
- Adhere to all standards of operations, policies and procedures, manuals, training material, memos and verbal instruction
- Bus dining room and patio, keep tables clear of dishes and food remnants
- Wash dishes, glassware, flatware, pots, and/or pans using dishwashers or by hand
- Place clean dishes, utensils, and cooking equipment in storage areas
- Maintain kitchen work areas, equipment, and utensils in clean and orderly condition
- Stock supplies such as food and utensils in serving stations, cupboards, refrigerators, and salad bars
- Sweep and scrub floors
- Clean garbage cans with water or steam
- Sort and remove trash, placing it in designated pickup areas
- Assist in unloading deliveries (food and supplies)
- Ensure open lines of communication via email, logbooks, meetings, etc., to ensure all needs of the restaurant are met
- Maintain a high level of cleanliness and safety in the work area
- Ensure that all equipment is maintained in good, safe working condition
- Maintain an increased awareness of safety issues throughout the property
- Keep abreast of safety and emergency procedures and OSHA requirements
- Attend relevant meetings
