Job Description
Marriott International is a globally renowned hospitality company dedicated to providing exceptional guest experiences across a wide portfolio of hotels and resorts. Among its many distinguished brands, Westin stands out as a leader in wellness hospitality, focusing on helping guests rejuvenate and become the best version of themselves while traveling. Marriott International prides itself on its commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunity, fostering a welcoming environment for all associates and guests alike. The company actively promotes a culture where diverse backgrounds, talents, and experiences are celebrated, supporting a workforce that reflects the global communities it serves. Marriott is dedicated to adhering to all applicable laws concerning discrimination and encourages qualified applicants from various backgrounds, including those with criminal records, to apply.
The role in question is a full-time, non-management position based at 335 Powell Street, San Francisco, California, within the Food and Beverage & Culinary category. This position offers an hourly wage of $33.67 and requires on-site work rather than remote engagement. As a pivotal member of the Westin team, this role plays an essential function in maintaining the cleanliness, sanitation, and overall operational efficiency of the kitchen and associated areas. The individual in this role will be responsible for operating and maintaining various cleaning equipment such as dishwashers, hand-washing stations, pot-scrubbing stations, and waste compactors.
Additionally, the role involves washing and disinfecting kitchen and storage areas, tables, utensils, knives, and equipment to meet strict hygiene standards. Receiving deliveries and properly storing perishable products while executing effective stock rotation practices are critical tasks. Ensuring that clean dishes are stored appropriately and utilizing chemicals such as detergents, disinfectants, and rinse agents in a three-compartment sink for dishwashing form part of the daily routine. The employee will inspect, organize, and stack clean items and return dirty items for re-washing, employing high-pressure hot water sprays where necessary to loosen food residue.
Sorting, soaking, and washing or re-washing cutlery, as well as categorizing and separating containers for soiled items, are key duties. Waste management responsibilities include emptying trash bins, managing the garbage disposal area, sweeping and mopping assigned areas, disposing of glassware in proper containers, breaking down cardboard boxes, and placing recyclables in designated bins. Safety is paramount; therefore, adherence to company safety policies is required, including reporting accidents, injuries, and hazardous work conditions, and completing safety training and certifications.
The role also emphasizes safeguarding company assets, maintaining professional communication, and fostering positive working relationships to support team goals. Physical demands include moving, lifting, transporting, pushing, pulling, and placing objects up to 50 pounds unassisted, standing or walking for extended periods, reaching above the head and below the knees, bending, twisting at the waist, crawling, and leaning. The employee must be willing to perform reasonable additional duties as requested by supervisors.
This position requires no prior related work experience, supervisory experience, or specific certifications, and there is no educational minimum such as a high school diploma or GED; however, these are noted as not required rather than disqualifications. Joining this role at Westin means being part of a company that champions wellness not only for its guests but also for its employees, encouraging a lifestyle of health, enthusiasm, and personal growth. Employees are empowered to transform their work environment and personal lives positively, aligning with Westin's mission to become the hospitality industry’s foremost wellness brand.
Candidates who are passionate, active, optimistic, and adventurous will thrive in this role and at Marriott International. By taking on this position, the employee will have the opportunity to perform their best work, fulfill their purpose, join an incredible global team, and ultimately become the best version of themselves.
