Job Description
The Westin San Diego Gaslamp Quarter, situated in the vibrant and bustling heart of San Diego, California, is a premium hospitality establishment that prides itself on offering exceptional guest experiences. As a part of Marriott International, a globally recognized leader in the hospitality industry, the Westin brand is synonymous with wellness and rejuvenation, striving to empower guests to regain control over their well-being during travel. This iconic hotel combines luxurious comfort with state-of-the-art amenities, catering to both business and leisure travelers seeking a restorative stay in a dynamic urban setting. With a commitment to inclusivity, diversity, and equal opportunity employment, The Westin San Diego Gaslamp Quarter embraces a culture that values the unique backgrounds, talents, and experiences of its associates. It fosters a supportive and engaging environment that encourages personal growth and professional development within the hospitality sector.
The position available at The Westin San Diego Gaslamp Quarter is a full-time, non-management role focused on maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and sanitation in the kitchen and food service areas. This role is essential to the overall operation of the hotel’s food and beverage services, ensuring that all dishwashing and cleaning duties are performed efficiently and in compliance with health and safety guidelines. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating and maintaining various cleaning equipment such as dishwashing machines, hand wash stations, pot-scrubbing stations, and trash compactors. They will perform thorough cleaning and disinfecting tasks on kitchen and storage areas, tables, utensils, tools, knives, and other equipment used in food preparation and service.
This role requires careful handling and storage of deliveries, managing perishables properly, and rotating stock to maintain freshness and quality. Cleaning involves using detergents, rinsing, and sanitizing chemicals in the three-compartment sink, as well as inspecting and sorting cleaned items, and ensuring any soiled or improperly cleaned wares are rewashed. The employee will also rack and spray dishes with hot water to remove food residues and manage silverware by sorting, soaking, and washing or rewashing them as needed. Additional duties include breaking down dirty bus tubs, emptying trash cans, maintaining dumpster areas, mopping floors in assigned departments, disposing of glass safely, and handling recycling duties by breaking down cardboard boxes and placing recyclables in designated bins.
Working at The Westin requires adherence to all company policies and safety regulations, reporting any maintenance needs, workplace injuries, or unsafe conditions promptly to supervisors. The role emphasizes teamwork, clear and professional communication, and a proactive approach to supporting colleagues to reach common operational goals. Physically, this position involves lifting, moving, and carrying objects up to 50 pounds, standing or walking for extended periods, and performing movements such as bending, twisting, and stooping. There is no specific educational or prior work experience required, making this an accessible entry-level position for those seeking to start a career in hospitality. The hourly pay rate is set at $26.00, reflecting the company’s commitment to fair compensation. Overall, working at The Westin San Diego Gaslamp Quarter offers an opportunity to be part of a respected global brand dedicated to wellness, hospitality excellence, and continuous personal and professional growth.
