Joining L’Ermitage Beverly Hills as a Steward offers a vital role within the Culinary Management Team. This position is centered on ensuring the cleanliness and sanitation of all food and beverage areas using a range of tools, chemicals, equipment, and machinery. Responsibilities include the washing, sanitizing, and proper storage of dishes, glassware, silverware, pots, pans, utensils, and cutting boards—essential elements for seamless food service operations. The Steward also plays a crucial role in maintaining all kitchen equipment and dish machines, managing waste disposal, and maintaining overall cleanliness in designated service areas such as sweep and mop duties.

A Steward at L’Ermitage operates under the guidance of managing Chefs, performing tasks professionally and promptly to support the team and uphold the hotel's standards of service. This role demands vigilance and responsibility, including reporting any breakage, missing equipment, unsafe conditions, or operational concerns immediately. The Steward must ensure that workstations are prepared for service with all required chemicals, gloves, and tools stocked and ready, all while adhering strictly to the safety and health procedures dictated by the hotel and relevant authorities.

This is a position that requires a positive attitude, effective communication skills in English, reliability, confidentiality regarding guest information, and flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. The physical demands are considerable, requiring the ability to bend, stoop, squat, lift up to 50 pounds regularly, and endure extended periods of standing in varying temperature and noise conditions. The Steward position at L’Ermitage is hourly paid at $25.85 and is ideal for applicants who are committed to maintaining a clean, safe, and hospitable environment in a luxury hotel setting.

Job Requirements

  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, and stretch to fulfill necessary tasks
  • must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 50lbs on a regular and continuing basis
  • must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to 8 hours in length
  • must be able to work under variable temperature conditions including extreme heat or cold, variable noise levels, and around chemicals
  • flexible schedule willing and able to work shifts including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays

Job Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent education preferred
  • bi-lingual in English/Spanish preferred
  • ServSafe Food Handler Certification required
  • must maintain a neat and well-groomed appearance
  • ability to communicate in English both verbal and non-verbal
  • ability to maintain confidentiality of guest information and pertinent hotel data
  • positive attitude and ability to work well with team members
  • highly responsible and reliable

Job Duties

  • Maintain and execute 5-star Forbes and 5 Diamonds AAA standards
  • maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies, service procedures, and standards
  • perform all duties assigned by managing Chefs in a timely and professional manner
  • alert managing Chefs of any breakage and/or missing equipment
  • report any unsafe and/or unacceptable occurrences to managing Chefs immediately
  • check dish machine daily/nightly and report any concerns to managing Chefs
  • have workstation ready for service before service time with all chemicals, gloves, tools, and protective wear stocked
  • comply with and enforce all safety and health department procedures as well as L’Ermitage and/or departmental policies, procedures, including all state and federal laws
  • wash, sanitize, and store all dishes, flatware, silverware, glassware, pots, pans, utensils, and cutting boards
  • clean and maintain all equipment and dish machines
  • take all trash to designated areas
  • clean all trash receptacles and replace trash bags
  • sweep and mop areas designated by managing Chefs
  • complete special cleaning projects as assigned
