The role of Steward / Dishwasher at Renaissance Baton Rouge is a full-time position essential to maintaining the high standards of cleanliness and operational efficiency within the hotel's kitchen and dining areas. The Steward / Dishwasher is primarily responsible for cleaning, sanitizing, and drying all china, glassware, silverware, and other equipment that is returned to the dish hall station either by server assistants or other employees. Beyond handling the dishwashing operations, this role also encompasses ensuring dining tables are clean and well-presented, complete with clean china, glassware, silverware, and linens. This position demands a reliable individual who can operate dishwashing machines efficiently, wash items by hand that are unsuitable for machine cleaning, and manage the organization of items within the dishwashing area. Physical stamina is necessary, as the job may require standing for extended periods and exerting considerable physical effort, including lifting heavy loads. Mental acuity is equally important, with the need to communicate clearly, handle stressful situations professionally, and anticipate tasks proactively to support smooth restaurant operations. In addition to core dishwashing duties, the Steward / Dishwasher performs side duties such as cleaning vents, scrubbing trash cans, cleaning under tables, and other detailed cleaning tasks that contribute to the overall cleanliness and safety of the hotel environment. Job Duties

  • Approach all encounters with guests and employees in a friendly, service-oriented manner
  • maintain regular attendance in compliance with service standards

  • organize and place items in trays for washing machine
  • operate washing machine and dry items before returning them to proper stock location
  • wash items by hand that will not fit in machine or not intended for automatic wash
  • help fellow employees as needed to meet guest volume and complete assigned side duties
  • understand and follow safety and sanitation practices
  • perform duties requiring standing and fast movement throughout kitchen area
  • perform side duties including cleaning vents, scrubbing trash cans, cleaning gum from under tables, cleaning chairs, cleaning ice bins, replacing light bulbs, setting up sanitizers, cleaning floor sweepers, emptying trash, and taking trash to dumpster
  • comply with all health and safety regulations
  • perform other duties as assigned
