Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • three years of experience cooking in a full-service or institutional kitchen
  • ServSafe Food Handler Training Certificate or another ANSI-accredited Food Handler Certificate within 30 days of hire
  • ability to stand for long periods and frequently walk, handle objects, reach, talk, or hear
  • occasionally sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, lift, and/or move up to 50 lbs
  • ability to work in a kitchen environment with moderate noise and occasional exposure to extreme heat or caustic chemicals
  • availability to adjust to day, evening, and weekend schedules
  • specific vision abilities including close vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment
  • compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED

Job Duties

  • Prepare rotating menu items and properly garnish all offerings at the Plate by Plate station
  • work additional stations as needed
  • assist the Executive Chef and Sous Chef in developing recipes for station rotation menus
  • collaborate with the Purchasing Manager to procure new food items for menus
  • participate in concept development for weekly rotations, holidays, and special events
  • serve as a resource and mentor for St. Jude Culinary Apprentices
  • present food using proper techniques and maintain high standards of quality and consistency
  • set up stations based on anticipated volume
  • complete food requisitions to maintain inventory
  • provide feedback to chefs and retail teams regarding day-to-day operations
  • accommodate special customer requests and dietary needs
  • guide and delegate tasks to other cooks
  • assist in utilizing Computrition for menu planning and recipe development
  • support management staff in planning and executing events
  • follow proper food handling, sanitation, and safety procedures
  • maintain cleanliness of all work areas and storage spaces
  • record and maintain temperature logs
  • monitor staff for compliance with safety and sanitation standards
  • operate and maintain kitchen equipment to ensure it is clean and functional
  • coordinate breakdown of leftover items and end-of-shift cleaning
  • respond appropriately in hospital emergency or safety situations
  • report all accidents immediately
  • attend meetings, training sessions, and follow all payroll, uniform, and organizational procedures
  • perform additional duties as assigned to meet department and hospital goals
  • maintain regular and predictable attendance
