The position available at SpartanNash is located at 847 S. Kalamazoo Ave. in Paw Paw, Michigan. This role plays a vital part in delivering a satisfactory customer experience at one of SpartanNash's coffee shop locations. The role involves preparing coffee shop beverages and food items according to established standards, ensuring a clean and safe working environment, and operating the cash register to process payments efficiently. This position is excellent for candidates who enjoy customer interactions and take pride in delivering courteous and efficient service.

As a coffee shop team member, you will use your skills to brew, blend, and mix coffee beverages to meet the company’s quality standards. You will be responsible for preparing food items following detailed procedures, adhering strictly to food safety and cleanliness guidelines. Handling the cash register efficiently is another critical duty, requiring you to itemize customer purchases and promptly process payments such as cash, credit cards, checks, gift certificates, and coupons.

This job also involves merchandising responsibilities, such as stocking items, rotating coffee products and merchandise displays, and maintaining an understanding of current store programs and product locations. You will also need to communicate in-store promotions, loyalty programs, and other special offers to customers, helping to drive customer engagement and sales.

SpartanNash emphasizes safety and compliance, expecting you to follow all personal protective equipment (PPE) guidelines, food safety protocols, cleaning standards, and guest experience practices. Flexibility is also key, as you may be assigned additional tasks in other departments based on customer experience needs.

The ideal candidate for this position will have at least a high school diploma or GED, accompanied by a preferred year of retail or similar experience. Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to engage politely and effectively with customers are essential. Attention to detail, good organizational skills, and basic reading, writing, and arithmetic abilities will help ensure success in this role.

The position requires physical stamina, as it involves standing and walking for extended periods, frequent bending, stooping, twisting, and moving items weighing up to 30 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 50 pounds. The retail store environment includes varying temperatures and exposure to outside weather conditions, with generally low to moderate noise levels.

Job Duties

  • Prepare coffee shop beverages
  • brew, mix and/or blend beverages according to set standards
  • prepare food items according to procedures
  • ensure food and beverages are handled in a safe manner and work is completed in a clean work environment
  • operate cash register to itemize customer purchases and process payments including cash, checks, credit cards, gift certificates, coupons
  • stock items and rotate coffee items and merchandise displays
  • maintain understanding of current store programs and product locations
  • understand use of check-stand equipment and coffee shop equipment and its efficient operation
  • notify the department lead or manager if products and supplies need to be ordered
  • comply with company policies regarding security, cash handling/cash drawer accounting procedures, product handling
  • maintain a clean and well-stocked department
  • ensure compliance with safety and sanitation procedures and standards
  • communicate company programs, in-store specials and coupons to customers
  • follow all PPE and safety guidelines
  • follow all food safety and cleaning expectations
  • follow guest experience guidelines
  • may be assigned tasks in other departments based on customer experience needs
  • additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed
