The Assistant General Manager role at Applegreen is a critical management position focused on supporting the General Manager in ensuring smooth day-to-day business operations across its travel plazas. This position is an excellent opportunity for entry-level managers to develop essential management skills in a dynamic environment that demands leadership, operational efficiency, and excellent customer relations. The Assistant General Manager helps facilitate team performance by delivering clear feedback, setting goals, fostering teamwork, and communicating business objectives effectively to staff at all levels.
Key responsibilities include supervising non-management associates, assigning work duties, coaching and developing shift supervisors, and maintaining high operational standards. The role requires stepping in with full managerial responsibilities in the absence of the General Manager, demonstrating the need for strong leadership and organizational skills. The Assistant General Manager is also tasked with motivating staff, managing cash accurately, addressing customer issues promptly, ensuring compliance with company policies and health and safety standards, and overseeing inventory management.
This role demands a passionate leader with a customer-centric mindset and the ability to inspire a team during challenging times. Candidates should bring at least two years of experience in quick service restaurant or similar management operations, exhibit excellent communication skills, and possess a basic understanding of food safety practices. Physical capability to lift or push objects over 30 pounds is also required due to the nature of the work environment.
