Joining Howard County Government means becoming part of a diverse and inclusive workplace dedicated to excellence and innovation. The organization values every employee's input and encourages contributions that drive continuous improvement and enhance community services. Employees benefit from competitive compensation and attractive benefits packages that include medical coverage, retirement plans, and wellness programs. Working here offers the unique opportunity to influence the county's culture positively and make a meaningful impact on public services and community engagement.

The position available is within the Recreation and Parks Department, focusing on the coordination and supervision of youth and adult field hockey programs, leagues, and camps, as well as lacrosse and kickball programs. This role operates in a self-sustaining, teamwork-oriented environment and requires strong leadership and organizational skills. The role demands excellent communication and organizational skills to handle customer inquiries, prepare promotional materials and news releases, and maintain accurate data on the Active.net platform. Additionally, you will facilitate purchasing, warehousing, and the distribution of equipment and supplies, while also assisting in creating and monitoring program budgets.

Supervisory duties are significant in this role, with direct responsibility for 12 to 40 contingent staff members and seasonal management of 5 to 25 leisure service providers. You will undertake recruitment, hiring, training, scheduling, performance evaluation, and conflict resolution to ensure a high-performing team. Collaboration with other division coordinators and departments is essential to achieve operational efficiency and service excellence.

This role requires the ability to perform informal bids, handle invoices, review timecards, and manage accident reports, demonstrating a well-rounded administrative capability. Continuous improvement in the department's sustainability practices is also a core duty, reflecting Howard County's commitment to environmental responsibility.

Candidates should be prepared to work in a dynamic, customer-focused environment that values teamwork, innovation, and community service. The position may be deemed essential during emergencies, underscoring the importance of reliable and flexible personnel. A Maryland Class C Driver's License or equivalent is required to meet the operational demands of this role.
