Job Description

Spider Mountain and Thunderbird Lodge is a unique and premier destination located in the Texas Hill Country, known for its pioneering lift-served bike park, picturesque lakeside lodging, and an active marina offering a variety of lake activities. This year-round retreat is designed to provide guests with an unparalleled outdoor and hospitality experience, combining adventure and relaxation in a natural setting. As one of the region's most exciting new destinations, Spider Mountain and Thunderbird Lodge caters to outdoor enthusiasts, families, and event-goers who seek a vibrant, high-quality retreat away from the hustle and bustle of city life. The establishment prides itself on its innovative approach to hospitality, blending recreation, lodging, and event management to create a comprehensive guest experience in one stunning lakeside location.

About the Role

The General Manager position at Spider Mountain and Thunderbird Lodge is a critical leadership role designed for an entrepreneurial and hospitality-savvy operator who has a builder's mindset. This individual will be responsible for driving the vision and operational excellence of Thunderbird Lodge’s lakeside lodging experience, with a strong focus on transforming it into a must-stay destination within the Texas Hill Country. The role demands a hands-on leader who can elevate the property through strategic capital investments, ensuring upgrades and expansions are tied directly to revenue growth targets. This includes overseeing cabin remodels, enhancing food and beverage offerings, and expanding event infrastructure to support weddings, corporate retreats, festivals, and other gatherings.

Key responsibilities include defining a compelling destination vision that enhances guest satisfaction and loyalty, managing end-to-end guest experiences, and leading all aspects of business operations—financial performance, team leadership, and brand growth. In the first year, the General Manager is expected to demonstrate measurable growth in overall revenue and guest visits, particularly in lodging and events, by improving conversion rates, bookings, and relationships with regional partners.

The ideal candidate will have proven expertise in hospitality leadership with over seven years of experience managing lodging, resort, or destination operations, coupled with a strong commercial acumen for revenue growth in lodging, food and beverage, and event services. The role also requires a strategic thinker capable of aligning capital expenditure projects with a clear return on investment and revenue milestones. Additionally, experience in outdoor recreation destinations and event business development will be highly regarded.

Success in this role means building a culture of warmth, efficiency, accountability, and guest obsession that resonates through every aspect of the property. The General Manager will also serve as the key liaison with ownership, local tourism partners, and community stakeholders to foster strong collaboration. As part of this evolution, the GM will implement operational rhythms such as consistent KPI tracking, improved forecasting, and service quality standards that enhance the overall guest experience and property presentation.

This full-time leadership opportunity offers a dynamic platform to shape the future of one of Texas’s most exciting emerging resorts, making a tangible impact on the Hill Country’s hospitality landscape by transforming Thunderbird Lodge and Spider Mountain into a top-tier, year-round destination.

  • Hire, develop, and lead department heads
  • build a high-performance culture rooted in accountability and hospitality
  • Maintain strong relationships with local stakeholders, tourism/community partners, and corporate partners
