The Specialty Team Member is an essential role supporting the regional Specialty vision. This position plays a key part in preparing and receiving specialty products, maintaining fresh and appealing displays, and delivering exceptional customer service. The role requires diligent adherence to Whole Foods Market’s Standard Operating Procedures and a commitment to health and safety regulations including food safety practices. From keeping the Specialty department clean and well-stocked to engaging customers with proactive selling and product expertise, the Specialty Team Member creates positive shopping experiences that reflect Whole Foods Market’s core values.

Whole Foods Market offers an hourly wage ranging from $18.00 to $25.40, commensurate with experience, along with comprehensive Whole Benefits available to full-time and part-time Team Members. This entry-level position requires no prior retail experience but demands a strong work ethic, excellent communication skills, and a passion for natural foods. Team members will be responsible for maintaining product quality, assisting with sampling programs, monitoring waste reduction, and ensuring a safe, clean work environment. Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work on their feet for extended periods in variable temperature conditions. Flexible availability, including nights, weekends, and holidays, may be necessary. Through this role, employees gain valuable experience and become key contributors to Whole Foods Market’s community impact and customer satisfaction.

Job Requirements

  • No prior retail experience required
  • must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • ability to stand/walk 6-8 hours in an 8-hour work day
  • hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling
  • work requires bending, twisting, squatting and reaching
  • exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals
  • exposure to temperatures of 90 degrees Fahrenheit
  • ability to work in a wet and cold environment
  • ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • ability to use tools and equipment including box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery
  • where applicable, TIPS course completion required
  • must be 18 years or older to serve alcohol

Job Duties

  • Surprises and delights customers with consistent and delicious food
  • engages in positive and proactive selling
  • ensures a fresh and appealing display by keeping cases and shelves clean and well-stocked
  • checks product to ensure it meets WFM quality standards
  • monitors spoilage and supply waste to minimize impact on department expenses
  • assists with sampling program, keeping sample areas full, clean and appealing
  • maintains back stock in good order
