The role of a Specialty Team Member at Whole Foods Market is an essential position that supports the Specialty department’s mission of delivering high-quality, fresh, and appealing specialty food products to customers. This role involves receiving and preparing products, maintaining the specialty floor and displays, and engaging in proactive selling to ensure customer satisfaction and support the regional Specialty vision. As part of the retail team, the Specialty Team Member plays a vital part in upholding Whole Foods Market’s core values and standards of excellence. This position requires providing courteous and efficient service to customers and fellow Team Members while adhering to store procedures, health and safety regulations, and food safety standards.

In this role, team members surprise and delight customers consistently by offering delicious specialty foods, ensuring that product displays are fresh, clean, and well-stocked. They are responsible for monitoring product quality, minimizing spoilage and waste, and supporting sampling programs that enhance the customer experience. Additionally, Specialty Team Members maintain back stock and manage inventory with attention to detail and organizational skills. They keep thorough records such as temperature logs and sanitation checks and perform opening, mid, and closing duties to maintain operational efficiency.

This entry-level position requires a strong work ethic, excellent communication skills, and a passion for natural foods. Candidates must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, meet customer service expectations, and contribute positively to the team dynamic. Although no prior retail experience is necessary, the role demands physical ability to lift weights, stand or walk for extended periods, and operate equipment safely. Job Requirements

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • standing/walking 6-8 hours in an 8-hour work day
  • hand use includes single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling
  • work requires bending, twisting, squatting and reaching
  • exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals
  • exposure to temperatures up to 90 degrees Fahrenheit
  • ability to work in wet and cold environments
  • ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • ability to use tools and equipment including box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery
  • completion of TIPS course required where applicable
  • must be 18 years of age or older to serve alcohol

Job Duties

  • Surprises and delights customers with consistent and delicious food

  • monitors spoilage and supply waste to minimize impact on department expenses
  • assists with sampling program, keeping sample areas full, clean and appealing
  • maintains back stock in good order
