Job Description
The Westin New York at Times Square is an iconic hotel located in the heart of New York City, known for its exceptional hospitality and commitment to guest wellness. As part of Marriott International, one of the world’s leading hospitality companies, The Westin New York embraces a mission focused on empowering guests to reclaim their sense of well-being while traveling, helping them arrive and depart as their best selves. This commitment reflects in the company culture, which promotes diversity, inclusion, and opportunities for growth among its associates.
This hotel specializes in delivering a premium and rejuvenating guest experience through unique brand programs dedicated to wellness, which makes it an ideal workplace for those passionate about health and well-being. The Westin New York is more than just a place to work; it’s a vibrant community where employees engage in practices to enhance their physical and mental wellness both inside and outside of work. Located strategically near Times Square, this establishment attracts a diverse clientele and offers a dynamic work environment that requires motivated, enthusiastic, and insightful team members.
The position available is full-time, non-management, in the Food and Beverage and Culinary category. The pay range is competitive, varying between $32.78 and $43.71 per hour, which reflects the role’s responsibilities and the establishment’s commitment to rewarding talent fairly.
The role involves food preparation and culinary support within the kitchen. Key activities include handling ingredients—such as portioning, chopping, and storage—and cooking food according to strict quality and presentation standards. Precision in measuring and mixing ingredients is essential, as is monitoring the food quality throughout preparation to ensure safety and excellence. The job demands a meticulous approach to portion size, plating, and decoration before serving the food in appropriate portions and containers.
Safety and cleanliness are paramount; therefore, maintaining sanitary conditions of kitchen surfaces, utensils, and equipment is a critical responsibility. The role also entails operating kitchen utensils correctly and safely and verifying the temperatures of both appliances and food products to comply with health regulations. Awareness and adherence to safety policies and reporting any unsafe conditions or incidents are mandatory for this position.
Effective communication skills are vital as the employee will support team objectives and interact professionally with guests and colleagues. The ability to work collaboratively and respond constructively to concerns is essential, alongside maintaining a clean and professional personal appearance consistent with company standards.
Physically, the job requires standing, sitting, or walking for extended periods, as well as lifting, moving, or transporting objects up to 10 pounds independently. The ability to perform reasonable additional duties as assigned by supervisors highlights the dynamic nature of the role.
The Westin New York also invests in career development by partnering with training platforms such as Rouxbe Culinary School to provide associates with access to specialized online culinary education. This initiative supports employees at varying experience levels to enhance their skills and grow their culinary careers while contributing effectively to the hotel's mission.
Candidates passionate about wellness, hospitality, and culinary arts will find this role rewarding and aligned with The Westin’s dedication to being a top wellness-focused hotel brand. Those joining this team are not only embarking on a career but joining a global community of professionals committed to delivering exceptional guest experiences and fostering personal and professional growth. This position offers a meaningful opportunity to work in a stimulating environment amidst one of the most vibrant cities in the world while contributing to the health and satisfaction of guests and colleagues alike.
